Job Title: Senior Data Analyst

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Senior Director of Business and Data Analytics

Position Summary

The Senior Data Analyst will analyze and assess the needs of food insecure individuals across Eastern MA, lead the program to advance self-service reporting at GBFB, and will create powerful visualizations and insights using internal and external data to support GBFB and its network of hunger relief partners' ability to efficiently, effectively, and equitably serve MA residents experiencing food insecurity. They will work collaboratively with the other members of the Business and Data Analytics team and share the team's goal of growing GBFB's data management program, empowering self-service reporting, and driving data-informed insights & action across GBFB.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining reports and dashboards using Power BI and other data visualization and analytics tools.
  • Collaborates with team members across the organization as well as external partners to develop powerful, user-friendly tools using a variety of complex datasets to provide meaningful and accessible insights.
  • Leads the Power BI self-service program including design and implementation elements and acts as an educator and resource for program participants.
  • Responsible for producing local estimates and maintaining data pertaining to food insecurity and hunger relief efforts across Eastern MA to identify communities that are under- or inequitably resourced to meet the nutritious food and dietary preferences of its residents.
  • Acts as primary resource for GIS needs, maintaining Power BI and ArcGIS Online maps and related dashboards.
  • Acts as primary resource for standard data requests through the monitoring of inquiries and responding within a timely manner, identifying request priority, and elevating or deferring to others as necessary.
  • Responsible for completing monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external reporting.
  • Collaborates with the Advancement Team members regarding grant applications, fundraising opportunities, donor volunteer experiences, etc.
  • Supports the growth of the Service Insights client data collection effort.
  • Responsible for the administration of surveys to assess the needs, trends, and capacity of GBFB's network of distribution partners and the clients they serve as well as internal surveys; analyzing survey results and creating reports and presentations to share findings with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Supports the Development and implementation of research and data analyses strategies to better understand the needs and disadvantages of those experiencing food insecurity including racial inequity, housing, unemployment, etc.; keeping GBFB up to date as new data becomes available and explaining any changes and causal elements.
  • Identifies external research and datasets to inform GBFB's operations and strategy.
  • Acts as backup to, and collaborates with, Senior Data Analyst in converting GBFB's business needs into reporting requirements, supporting the data governance program, and maintaining SQL views.
  • Acts as backup to, and collaborates with, Data Engineer in maintaining and troubleshooting Azure Synapse data warehouse and related processes.
  • Maintains Standard Operating Procedures.

Qualifications:
  • MS in Data Science or similar field with 3+ years of data-focused work experience; BS in Data Science or similar field with minimum of 5 years of experience working in a Data-focused role; or 5+ years of data-focused work experience including 3+ years in a Senior Data Management/Analyst role required.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis and data visualization required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI required.
  • Experience with GIS required; ArcGIS preferred.
  • Experience with other BI and data analytics software preferred.
  • Experience with Power Automate preferred.
  • Experience working with relational databases required.
  • Experience working with data warehouses preferred.
  • Experience with Netsuite, Salesforce preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Experience working in an Agile or similar environment that emphasizes continuous collaboration and improvement preferred.
  • Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.


Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in an office environment.
  • Ability to work remotely both independently and collaboratively using connectivity tools like Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Ability to sit for up to 3 hours at a time.


Work Environment
  • The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting.
  • Remote, high-speed internet access required.
  • Some weekend and evening hours are periodically required.
  • This role follows a hybrid schedule working in accordance with GBFB's hybrid work policy. In-office time is used primarily for team meetings and formal and informal collaboration necessary to foster and support a positive work culture. This schedule is subject to change based on organizational needs.
