Position Description

Position Title: Principal of the Academic Center

Qualifications/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • The Principal shall hold a Secondary Principal Certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Administrative Director Certificate preferred but not required.
  • The Principal shall have five years of professional teaching experience, three years of administrative experience in the field of secondary education preferred.
  • Experience in career and technical education preferred but not required
  • Experience and demonstrated skills in data analysis and data-driven decision-making
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient research, data collection, data reporting and data based decision-making skills as well as ability to access, analyze and interpret student data

  • Reports To/Supervised By: Director of Curriculum & Instruction

    Responsibilities:
  • Provide visionary leadership to stimulate innovation and build capacity in the Academic Center
  • Provide instructional leadership to academic teachers in order to improve curriculum, instruction and teaching techniques, and student achievement
  • Supervise and evaluate academic instructional personnel and programs
  • Maintain current knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations affecting academic and special education
  • Assist in obtaining state, federal, and other funds for the Academic Center
  • Coordinate assigned state, federal, and other grants
  • Assist in the collection, review, and submission of assigned forms and reports relative to academic education to state and federal agencies
  • Assist in the curriculum development, lesson design, and integration of academic and CTE content in all academic programs
  • Coordinate state academic testing process for students
  • Coordinate dual credit opportunities, both on and off LCTI campus
  • Analyze data for data-driven decision making
  • Prepare and administer the budget for the Academic Center
  • Assists in the recruitment, screening and hiring of academic teachers and support staff
  • Maintain membership in and participate in professional organization(s) devoted to the advancement/improvement of academic education
  • Develop and implement a program of public relations to further the community's understanding and support of the school program
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the Lehigh County educational stakeholders, including but not limited to high school principals, assistant principals, student services personnel, and postsecondary educators
  • Develop and implement a fair and consistent system of student discipline including notification and cooperation with participating district officials, police personnel, and parent/guardian(s) of students
  • Coordinate arrival, noontime supervision, and dismissal of students from the Academic Center
  • Serve on school and related committees as assigned
  • Support and monitor the faculty advisors to the National Technical Honor Society, the Academic Center yearbook, and a student council/CTSO council
  • Coordinate and conduct parent conferences
  • Develop the master schedule for all academic courses
  • Maintain student attendance policies
  • Serves as a liaison and resource person on IEP Team meetings, as needed
  • Nurture a culture of respect and collaboration with and between academic and CTE staff, students, and support staff
  • Ability to successfully address emergency situations that pose a risk to the well-being, safety, and security of students and staff
  • Administer an effective program for student evaluation, reporting and promotion
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and attend school-sponsored activities and functions
  • In coordination with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, develop and update school curriculum, ensure teaching of curriculum and encourage all staff to use curriculum resources, lead and participate in writing and developing curriculum towards LCTI goals
  • Develop and support Professional Learning Communities in the Academic Center
  • Establish and nurture a culture of high expectations and student achievement
  • Implement, monitor, support and evaluate dual enrollment programs
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
