About The Team

SmartThings is seeking an experienced and highly skilled hands-on System Administrator Manager to join the team. As the manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our IT personnel and the Cloud Administrator and ensure the smooth operation of our infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead our small IT team, which includes local team members in our Minneapolis, MN office and Mountain View, CA office
  • Lead our Cloud Administrator
  • Engage and develop members of the team and team practices
  • Hands-on with IT tasks and cloud systems administration
  • Enable high availability for remote and onsite of client's computing and networking infrastructures as needed
  • Prepare cost benefits analysis reports when upgrades are necessary, continuously analyzing vendors to ensure they offer the best possible service and value for company needs
  • Work with internal customers at staff and management levels to understand technology needs, be responsive in finding solutions, and support their needs
  • Manage corporate tooling and compliance requests from our overseas research centers and corporate headquarters
  • Help diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Manage and track support internal support requests
  • Assist in preparing technical proposals, reports, and presentations
  • Develop and execute disaster procedures and maintain data backups
  • Lead the management of IT internal policies and work closely with our Information Security team to ensure our information systems are secure and compliant with corporate policies
  • Develop and maintain annual technology capital purchasing and operating budgets by collaborating with Finance team
  • Oversee/carry out special projects as needed
  • Oversee/carry out the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT systems such as video conferencing, meeting rooms, teleconference equipment, and UPS
  • Support company-wide information technology initiatives with technology expertise. Lean on Automation when possible.
  • May be required to travel twice a year

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or similar field
  • 5+ years of experience working in IT operations
  • 3+ years of experience as a people manager
  • Experience with Cloud Service Providers (in SysAdmin capacity)
  • Experience with MDMs, On-prem network solutions, VPN
  • Experience in establishing IT practices that are a good fit for the work environment
  • Experience in managing IT assets' lifecycle (licenses, contracts, physical assets, etc.)
  • A strong can-do attitude and a teaching and learning mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
  • Hands-on experience in stepping in as needed
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work 3 days a week onsite at our Minneapolis office


Desired Skills
  • Experience working across time zones, geographies, languages, and cultures
  • Experience working in the IoT Industry
  • Familiar with ISO 27001, SOC2, and related industry standards
  • Strong experience in AWS, or Azure as a SysAdmin

Compensation for this role for a candidate based in Minneapolis is expected to be between $120,000 and $180,000. Additionally, this role is eligible for a 20% annual target bonus potential, depending on company and individual performance.
