The National Security Sector at Leidos has an opening for a Field Engineer to support work in our Ridgecrest, CA office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your production, manufacturing, and leadership skills to support the Navy's Aircrew Electronic Warfare Tactical Training Ranges (AEWTTR) mission. In this mission we provide engineering support for design, modification, and maintenance of ground radar and associated devices for the Navy's aircrew Electronic Warfare (EW) training capability. Our organization designs, manufactures, integrates, and provides depot level support for a wide variety of EW threat simulation systems that are part of the training infrastructure that ensures our Navy aircrews are the most effective in the world.
This position will be based in Ridgecrest, California requiring approximately 15% travel. Estimated travel is between one and two weeks at a time approximately 5 times a year to geographically disperse sites associated with the Aircrew Electronic Warfare Tactical Training Ranges (AEWTTR). These training ranges are located primarily located at Cherry Point, NC, Fallon, NV, Yuma, AZ and Pacific Beach, WA.
Responsibilities
The Field Engineer determines methods and procedures on new assignments, may serve in a lead role and provide guidance to nonexempt personnel. Additional duties include the assembling, disassembling, cleaning, fabrication, reassembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing along with the processing of data related to Radars, Electronic Warfare, Instrumentation and Communications Systems; as well as accessing and manipulating databases of parts, materials and drawings in order to prepare Material Requests and to create/kit/process Travelers in accordance with assigned Work Packages; and other duties as assigned.
In addition, The Field Engineer is responsible for supervising all manufacturing production control activities which include development of schedules an status charts in accordance with the program plan; identification of long lead material items; release and monitor jobs to production; provide management with current status which includes master schedules, shortage reports, and line of balance.

Pay Range: Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00

Additional duties
- Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements.
- Analyses and evaluates work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed; and advises management of the status, variance from plan, and concerns.
- Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements.
- Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.
- The Field Engineer receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives.
- Makes independent decisions free from immediate supervision where decisions may be in the form of a recommendation usually followed with minimal reviews from higher levels of authority
- Work is reviewed by management to measure meeting objectives.
- Makes choices of real and substantial significance regarding the policies or general operations of the business.
- Investigate, analyze, and identifies the root cause of problems.
- Directs established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
- Work on difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Will contribute to the development of organization's goals and objectives.
- Decisions or failure to achieve results may cause substantial delays in schedules.
- The Field Engineer regularly interacts with outside customers and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules.
- Supervise and provide focus to subordinates directed by established policies and procedures.
- Interpret, implement, and administer policies that typically affect individual employees of a sub-unit.
- Provide administrative supervision.
- Decisions may be in the form of a recommendation usually followed with minimal reviews from higher levels of authority.
- Additionally, the Field Engineer is responsible for personnel management of assigned employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree with 5 or more years of related experience. Additional directly related experience can offset the degree requirements.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Experience related to creating, building, assembling, installing, integrating, testing, troubleshooting, modifying, and repairing prototype and production electrical/mechanical/logical systems.
- Knowledge of specialized tools and equipment such as Multi-meters, Oscilloscopes, and Signal Generators for the purpose of creating, building, assembling, installing, integrating, testing, troubleshooting, modifying, and repairing electrical/mechanical/logical systems.
- Experience soldering wires, connectors, and circuit boards.
- Experience assembling electrical connectors, cables, subassemblies, assemblies, subsystems and systems typically found in military platforms and equipment.
- The ability to read, understand and interpret detailed electrical/mechanical/logical line drawings, assembly drawings, schematics, and work packages either in hardcopy or electronic/database formats.
- Must be a US Citizen.
