HAPO Community Credit Union has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Accounting (assistant to the controller) to join our team. The Director of Accounting will be responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Director of Accounting will work closely with the VP of Accounting/Finance & Controller along with the Chief Financial Officer. This position will oversee the Accounting department and provide leadership and direction to the Accounting Manager.

Starting Annual Salary (DOE): $98,724.29 - 148,086.43+

The Director of Accounting will be responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Director of Accounting will work closely with the VP of Accounting/Finance & Controller along with the Chief Financial Officer. This position will oversee the Accounting department and provide leadership and direction to the Accounting Manager.
Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
- Work directly with VP of Accounting and CFO to execute business plan and organizational goals
- Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department
- Thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure to ensure an accurate and timely month, quarterly, and year end close
- Ensure ongoing reporting and reconciliation activity related to A/P, A/R, Fixed Assets, G/L, ACH, and Payroll
- Ability to identify, research, and correct any out of balance items or other anomalies
- Support annual external financial statement audit, annual 401k audit, annual pension plan audit, and any other audit assigned by Executive Management
- Proactively review internal processes, make recommendations, and implement (processes, procedures, and technology) improvements to improve productivity (effectiveness and efficiency) along with quality and service level
- Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely filing for all state and federal regulatory required forms and returns

- Fluent working knowledge of PC's and Microsoft Office especially Excel.
- Working knowledge of Payroll
Requirements:
- 4-year degree from a college or university, either a B.A. or B.S. in accounting or finance with a preference for professional certification (CPA).
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience at a managerial or supervisory position, preferably with a financial or accounting background, in a credit union or similar financial institution preferred.
Certifications Preferences:
- Certified Public Accountant
