Systems Administrator

Job Summary:

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, network, and related infrastructure. This role involves technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the organization. Additionally, the Systems Administrator will troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues for hardware and software.

Primary Functions:

Server, Datacenter, and Configuration Management:
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in line with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure security and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures for various server applications like WordPress.
  • Perform daily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to appropriate media.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
  • Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain good communication and coordination with the company's agencies, vendors, and others as needed.
  • Administer and maintain virtual environments like Citrix, VMware and others.

Network Management:
  • Design, configure, and maintain local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).
  • Manage and configure Cisco routers, switches, and Meraki devices to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues to minimize downtime.

Cloud Services:
  • Configure and manage Azure and AWS cloud services, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, and IAM.
  • Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions using cloud technologies.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud resources for cost-effectiveness and performance.

Backup and Recovery:
  • Implement and manage backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Perform regular backup testing and validation to ensure reliability.

Security and Compliance:
  • Implement and enforce security technologies to protect IT infrastructure and data.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Technical Support:
  • Provide tier 2/3 support for network, server, and application issues.
  • Work with end-users and other IT staff to resolve technical problems.
  • Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical major
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and network-related problems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, Group Policy, Active Directory, and enterprise management strategies.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities regularly.
  • Ability to work under pressure and communicate effectively.
  • Well-organized with attention to detail.

Additional Qualifications: Desirable
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator.
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals.
  • CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP).

Relationship Reporting:
  • Reports to the IT Director

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, or view a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel by private or public transportation as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
