Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Exceptional Learners substantially and effectively assists the Director of Exceptional Learners in providing leadership and oversight of special education and 504 programs and services. He/she assists in the administration and coordination of local and state-mandated activities and programs to ensure that students are provided with equitable learning opportunities, quality instruction, and the fullest educational experience possible.

Job Qualifications:
  • Indiana School Administrator License or Director of Special Education License
  • Experience leading at a variety of grade levels (preschool, elementary, secondary) preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills
  • People-first and student-first mentality
  • Collaborative management style
  • Strong work ethic, professional demeanor
  • Special Education and leadership experience required


Job Requirements:
  • Oversees the coordination, implementation, compliance, and effectiveness of developmental preschool, elementary, and secondary special education and 504 programming including, but not limited to:
    • Professional Development for teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators
    • Behavior supports across the district - directly with students, problem-solving, and management of the team
    • Coordinate special education services and processes with nonpublic school
    • ISPROUT and I AM assessment coordinator
    • State reporting requirements and compliance management
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training and management
    • Contracted and related services
    • Special Education Grant Management
    • Medicaid Billing and Reimbursement
    • Special Education Transportation and Bus Monitors
    • First Steps transition and early childhood programming
    • Arrange and oversee homebound services
    • Writes and submits excess cost applications, if applicable
    • Oversees Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
    • Chairs Manifestation Determination meetings and case conferences as needed
    • ABA to school transition
    • Indiana IEP Management and Training
    • Assists with state reporting and data entry oversight
    • Other duties as assigned
