As a Cost Control Manager working in the Major Projects team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a key role in making a significant contribution to the management control of our major projects. Supporting our work on large-scale building and infrastructure projects - ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion - you will work closely with our Major Project Support Director to analyze and develop budgets and best practices as it relates to project opportunities and helping the project teams in making sound decisions.

As a Cost Control Manager working in the Major Projects team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a key role in making a significant contribution to the management control of our major projects. Supporting our work on large-scale building and infrastructure projects - ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion - you will work closely with our Major Project Support Director to analyze and develop budgets and best practices as it relates to project opportunities and helping the project teams in making sound decisions.
What You Will Do
- Organize the cost control team on a major project.
- Distribute or delegate tasks, set objectives, and facilitate skill development for each team member.
- Create processes, procedures, and oversee their implementation.
- Communicate operational requests and technical instructions to the team.
- Supervise tasks related to operational dashboard management and the identification of budget optimization opportunities.
- Ensure the dissemination, explanation, and adherence to Grand Project Management
- Methods, proposing improvements when deemed necessary.
- Maintain continuous communication with the Works, Procurement, Contractual, and
- Accounting teams to ensure accurate expense allocation and consistent management.
- Develop strategic (budget adjustments), management (cost control), and operational (labor and concrete monitoring) dashboards based on the department's strategic plan and managers' annual action plans.
- Ensure the reliability of operating results by analyzing key indicators, including progress and incurred expenses, remaining expenses, quantities implemented, key ratios, equipment, staffing, and hourly staff.
- Oversee entity management, particularly cost control, budget adjustments, significant subcontracting contracts, entity overheads, consideration of potential contract penalties, adherence to negotiated framework contracts by the Purchasing Department, and various variance accounts (equipment, personnel, etc.).
- Respond to requests for analysis and synthesis from the Project Directorate in the field of cost control.
- Conduct independent studies or analyses as needed.
- Participate in managing the skills of all teams and provide training on essential management and information system usage.
- Collaborate with project managers to establish budgets and input them into the system.
- Participate in closing meetings for internal audit missions conducted within your scope and ensure the effective implementation of recommendations.
- Perform specific control missions at the request of management.
- Contribute to the deployment of the Cost Control tool.
- Frequent interactions with Partner Financial Directors, Financial Committee, the Project
- Directorate, the Project Control Department, the Administration and Finance Team, Works
- Directors, Business Managers, the Procurement Team, internal auditors, and quality auditors.
This role could be for you if you have
- Interest in Information Systems and Project Management (PMIS).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with SAP and InEight is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in management or engineering-related field.
- 10 years of experience, including 5 years in a team management role. Experience in construction is an asset.
- Ability to anticipate and plan priority tasks.
- Strong listening skills and synthesis abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Advanced level of English.
