- Investigate financial activities involving highly successful professionals, recognized community business leaders, or financial entities with substantial operations outside the immediate locality.
- Manage complex audits involving numerous activities, operations, and transactions with intricate interrelationships.
- Examine the books, records, computer and electronic data, data processing materials, and activities of government contractors or other individuals.
- In the absence of records, obtain detailed financial information from alternative sources, including interviews with business associates, firm employees, and competitors.
- Reconstruct partial or inadequate records as necessary for investigations.
- Obtain evidence through the interrogation of numerous employees, businesspeople, and other individuals with knowledge of operations.
- Prepare concise and accurate audit reports, including assembling, correlating, and analyzing the obtained facts.
- Discuss cases with supervisors and recommend further actions, such as case closure, additional investigation, or initiation of administrative or criminal proceedings.
- Perform quantitative, qualitative, statistical, or other analysis of relevant facts to support the USAO's litigative mission.
- Analyze Medicare and Medicaid databases.
- Design data techniques for fraud detection within Medicare/Medicaid databases and develop methods to demonstrate and prove fraud in healthcare fraud cases.
- Conduct conferences and interviews with financial institution members, healthcare providers, state and city government law enforcement agents, federal agents, CPAs, attorneys, witnesses, and subject matter experts.
- Develop, coordinate, and issue technical audit guidelines and instructions for the inspection of operational and support programs at the direct level.
- Audit technical support services for validity, response times, costs, and effective use of services.
- Identify the need for changes through the review of installation-level audit reports, billing statements, invoices, correspondence, computer data, and other pertinent records.
- Assist in analyzing and compiling documents and physical evidence.
- Create charts, graphs, videos, and other audio-visual materials for use in litigation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree is preferred
- Able to analyze, organize and present large volumes of data through the use of common software programs (i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, Case Map, I- Ppro, STARs, and other programs) is preferred.
- Possess a wide variety of skills/abilities in specialized areas such as forensic accounting, health care fraud, nursing, legal and/or law enforcement.
- Experience in reviewing and understanding medical records and knowledge of medical billing procedures is preferred.
- Working knowledge of current research and investigative techniques including the use of commercial databases and other sources of information.
