POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Building Level Principal - Luce Elementary School

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in education administration and supervision in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education.

  • Reports to: Superintendent of School Corporation

    Job Goal: Be responsible directly to the Board of School Trustees and Superintendent in the handling of all information of the School Corporation. Carry out all assignments to the best of one's ability with the utmost loyalty, honesty and integrity of the position.

    Terms of Employment: 201 days per year or as stated in the Certified Employee's contract.

    Hours: 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Plus additional hours of supervision.

    Fringe benefits in accordance with Professional Agreement between The Board of School Trustees and the South Spencer County Classroom Teachers Association.

    Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development of policy, procedure and corporation decisions.
  • Manage the building and grounds, while providing a physically safe, clean and attractive environment.
  • Establish order and discipline in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Supervise and provide direction and support for all staff members; certified and classified.
  • Evaluate and counsel all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  • Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development as appropriate.
  • Administer School Board policy and administrative rules in the operation of the school.
  • Prepare such reports as may be required by state mandate and the corporation.
  • Prepare and submit the school's budgetary request and be accountable for the expenditures of funds.
  • Identify and articulate job requirements for each position in terms of instructional and non-instructional responsibility for the total school program.
  • Consult with central administrative office staff in the operation of the school and in matters which relate to the entire school district.
  • Actively participate on the administrative team, serve on committees, make recommendations, implement, communicate and interpret policies and other decisions to staff, parents, and students.
  • Report to central office administrators the needs of the school regarding personnel, equipment, supplies, curriculum, and facility requirements and maintenance.
  • Allocate materials, equipment and facilities to accomplish instructional goals.

  • Educational Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional leadership so as to relate a school climate with a strong academic emphasis.
  • Continuously work with the teaching staff to develop a balanced curriculum responsive to the needs of adolescents.
  • Consult regularly with and coordinate the services of the resource personnel; Part-time, Title I, At-Risk, ect., so that all classroom teachers may receive effective assistance.
  • Provide leadership in creating and maintaining a balanced and diversified extracurricular activities program.
  • Provide continuing evaluation of all programs.
  • Encourage the teaching staff to utilize multiple approaches in their instructional techniques and practices.
  • Encourage professional growth of teachers and paraprofessionals through in-service training, experimentation and advanced training.
  • In concert with the teaching staff, identify and articulate clear and concise instructional goals and objectives for all students.
  • Utilize all resources of the school system and the community in developing the most effective educational program.
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings and workshops, reading professional journals and other publications, and sharing ideas and information with staff members whenever appropriate.

  • Interpersonal / Public Relations Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership in creating and maintaining a positive school climate with respect to teacher, classified and student morale.
  • Provide leadership in creating and maintaining supportive community relationships.
  • Establish a climate of trust, mutual respect and open communications with parents and guardians.

  • Miscellaneous:
  • Carry out all other responsibilities deemed necessary by the Superintendent.

  • Other Skills and Abilities:

    Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community as well as the ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    EVALUATION:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on evaluation of professional personnel. Evaluation will be conducted by Superintendent or immediate supervisor.
