Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) is seeking a full-time DoD Aviation Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) at the Pentagon. At CTC, you will collaborate with motivated and talented individuals who inspire one another in a dynamic team environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to the DoD's safety and occupational health program by supporting the Force Safety and Occupational Health (FSOH) Operational Safety Director.

Key Responsibilities
Support to FSOH Operational Safety Director: Collaborate with the Force Safety and Occupational Health (FSOH) Operational Safety Director to manage all facets of Department of Defense (DoD) aviation safety initiatives, encompassing Joint Safety Council and Defense Safety Oversight Council assistance and comprehensive data and trend analysis.
Communication and Documentation: Aid in the preparation of high-level briefings, information papers, memos, and other correspondence pertaining to aviation safety across the Department, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
Subject Matter Expertise (SME) Support: Provide specialized support to the Joint Safety Council Aviation Safety Working Group, offering analysis and expert guidance on integrating safety technologies into the DoD acquisition process. Liaise with DoD Research and Engineering and Acquisition and Sustainment communities, contributing insights to forums such as the Environmental and Safety and Occupational Health Integrated Process Team and Joint Human Systems Integration Working Group.
Strategic Analysis and Recommendations: Conduct thorough analysis to recommend strategies for integrating aviation and other safety technologies into the DoD acquisition process. Ensure milestone decision reviews and interim progress reviews adequately address safety performance concerns.
Input for JCIDS Process: Offer input and review for the Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (JCIDS) process, collaborating with research, laboratory, and industry partners to facilitate independent safety analysis and align safety systems with operational mission requirements and FSOH readiness requirements.
Data Analysis and Readiness Improvement:Utilize data analysis to enhance the readiness and availability of both military and civilian workforce through the implementation of acquisition policies, procedures, and standards across all systems, including aviation and weapon systems, and human integration systems.
Advocacy for Technological Innovation:Advocate for innovative technological solutions that directly contribute to the Department's mishap reduction goals, staying abreast of advancements in safety technologies and recommending their adoption where appropriate.
Policy Assistance and Coordination:Assist the FSOH in reviewing and updating aviation safety policy, such as Department of Defense Instruction 6055.19 Aviation Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Programs (AHIRAPs). Coordinate and provide input for Aeronautical Navigation meetings and related requests.
Specialized Subject Matter Expertise:Offer subject matter expertise to Automatic Collision Avoidance Technologies (ACAT) FRRP, aiding in the definition, generation, review, and approval of technology requirements for various collision avoidance systems transitioning to the Military Services.
Additional Duties: Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the FSOH Operational Safety Director to support the overarching objectives of the department.

Basic Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in an related field with 12+ years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 10-12 years of experience, or PhD with 8-10 years of experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 12 years' experience in flight operations, aircraft research & development, or aviation safety.
    • Experience working with Federal regulatory agencies (e.g., FAA, OSHA, FDA) and knowledge of Federal aviation safety regulations.
    • Experience developing and implementing strategic level aviation policies and procedures.
    • Experience facilitating and participating in technical meetings with Federal agencies and technical experts.
    • Working understanding of the Office of Secretary of Defense roles.
    • Hands-on military aviation experience.
    • DOD leadership experience at the O6 or GS-15 level.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work directly with DoD senior executive leadership.
    • Experience in safety and occupational health.

  • Additional Experience:
    • Diverse experience in safety and occupational health.
    • Leadership experience in a military or federal agency setting.
  • Certifications:
    • BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
