Position: Director of Secondary, Adult and Career Education
General Job Description: Be responsible for the complete operation of the adult education program at the Career Center; direct overall grades 5-12 curriculum and instruction; develop and implement policy and procedure; make recommendations for improvement; and prepare and administer grants and reports.
Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree in education administration
2. CTE Administrative Leadership Certificate required, obtain within 1-year
3. Administration experience 5 years required
4. Individual should:
a. Be capable of developing and promoting a consistent philosophy of education and translating it into instruction purposes, programs, and procedures
b. Be capable of understanding and interpreting research
c. Have knowledge of educational principles, practices, and policies
d. Have the ability to collaborate and provide leadership in the overall planning, developing, coordinating, and administering of the secondary curriculum (grades 5-12), including the Career Center
e. Promote a School To Work and High Schools That Work philosophy
f. Have knowledge and understanding of grades 5-12 curriculum and instruction program and state board policy 2510 as it relates to the program.
Functions and responsibilities:
Career Center:
A. Is responsible for administering and coordinating the programs at the Career Center
B. Prepare and administer the annual LEA funding application
C. Prepare budgets for local, state, and federal monies
D. Compile and file state and federal reports
E. Compile and file student reports
F. Coordinate Career Center staffing for day and evening classes
G. Serve as the chief administer for HiSet preparation and testing
H. In-service, test, and maintain records of service personnel testing as required by West Virginia law
I. Coordinate training programs and supervise the coordinators of work-based learning and Career Services
J. Work cooperatively with West Virginia Northern to coordinate and promote Associate degree programs
K. Coordinate and promote certification testing in all programs available (NOCTI)
L. Promote positive public relations for Career and Adult Education
M. Coordinate and promote public use of the facility
Secondary Curriculum:
A. Collaborate with the middle and high school principals and other staff members to review the grades 5-12 curriculum and instruction program to assure consistency in the K-12 philosophy of the curriculum and instruction program
B. Coordinate textbook adoption for grades 5-12
C. Prepare component of county and school improvement plan
D. Work with technology coordinator to promote technology
E. Collaborate with alternative education funding grant application and coordinate the alternative education programs
F. Coordinate all scholarships and contests for high schools, such as Governor's Honors Academy
G. Maintain data on promoting High Schools That Work and SREB initiatives
H. Collaborate and cooperate with community agencies
I. Utilize survey and test data to review and revise programs grades 5-12
J. Maintain professional work habits
K. Maintain and upgrade professional skills
L. Evaluate personnel under his/her supervision
M. Perform any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
N. Review, recommend, and coordinate virtual school opportunities
O. Coordinate and monitor credit recover opportunities
P. Implement and coordinate No Child Left Behind compliance initiatives grades 5-12
