We're actively seeking a Primary Care Physician who wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families struggling with mental illness. A physician licensed by TSBME to provide primary care physician (PCP) services to Harris Center patients enrolled in Harris Center treatment programs. Under the clinical and administrative supervision of the VP, Mental Health Medical Services, the PCP provides clinical care to patients with identified physical health conditions needing medical intervention. The PCP will consult with the program psychiatrist and/or nursing staff regarding patients with a history of medical issues, or who are determined to have a medical condition needing further evaluation and/or treatment. The PCP will evaluate, diagnose, treat and/or refer patient to higher levels of medical care as clinically indicated.

As the largest behavioral and developmental disability care center in Texas, The Harris Center provided care to over 96,000 people in fiscal year 2023!

Your Role in Action:
- Works collaboratively with the program psychiatrists to identify and treat program patients for primary care medical services.
- Promotes team work, collaboration, and cooperation among treatment teams, to facilitate continuity and high level of quality of care for patients at assigned clinical settings.
- Manages routine and emergency physical health care needs by assessing, formulating and directing treatment interventions through collaboration with the treatment teams as needed.
- Ensures provision of education regarding medications, relevant treatment information and disease process to patients and family members.
- Works collaboratively in consultation with the program psychiatrists to institute actions enhancing the quality of physical medical services rendered to patients.
- Utilizes evidenced-based care, best practices, and community standards, in the provision of patient care.
- Responsible for maintaining agency productivity benchmarks
- Complies with eligibility and service provision requirements, treatment plan authorization and documentation, service provision documentation and timely data submission.
- Performs related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements.
- Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities.
- Complies with Agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements
What qualifications you will need:
Education:
- Graduation from an approved college of medicine or osteopathy, with completion of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatric residency training. Must be Board eligible (and preferably Board certified in or certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatric Medicine.
Experience :
- Prefer experience in a community setting and familiarity with the SMI population (minimum of 12 months). Will consider new graduates from residency training programs.
Other Key Qualifications
- Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas according to the Texas Board of Medical Examiners.
- Must have a DEA number, a Texas Department of Public Safety Controlled Substance Number, and Triplicate Prescriptions for duties related to patient care.
