SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Director manages the health care of all students in the district and partners with Human Resources for the recruitment of qualified staff to perform services to students. Health care is essential since situations require the school nurse interventions. The health services department functions as part of a multidisciplinary team of professionals to bridge the gap between health and wellness and education and learning. The program emphasis is directed toward prevention of disease and promotion of positive health by health services, health counseling and health education. Perform related duties as required or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director provides, supervises and evaluates the following staff members- Associate Director, Health Services Staff, reserve nurses, clerical staff, HealthCheck program, school-linked clinic services and grants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Incumbent performs a majority of the following duties)
  • Develops and maintains a district wide comprehensive health service program.
  • Develops departmental budget requests and manages expenditures.
  • Develops and maintains nursing policies.
  • Establishes and monitors standards of school nursing.
  • Supervision of all on-site Health Services staff.
  • Evaluates the quality of nursing services in the schools and evaluates staff.
  • Assigns nursing staff in accordance with individual school needs and applicable bargaining unit requirements.
  • Supervises school nurse orientation; serves as liaison with all nursing staff and building administrators regarding nursing practices.
  • Coordination of school health programs with academic initiatives by working with lead principals.
  • Maintains and utilizes records, reports and statistical data in planning and developing new department initiatives to promote academic achievement.
  • Collaborates with members of the community as partners in the delivery of health and social services and utilization.
  • Supervises the development and delivery of health education programs delivered by school nurses.


QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S


Verifications
  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing, Public Health or related field
  • School Nurse Certification issued through the Ohio Department of Education
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio


Knowledge & Experience
  • Excellent human relations skills with the ability to develop working relationships with social service agencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration and current educational trends.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methodology, procedures and practices of the specialties required to deliver quality instructional support.
  • Thorough knowledge of Dayton Public Schools organization and operations.
  • Ability to manage fiscal, physical, resources and to direct the operations of a broad range of activities through subordinate managers to successfully carry out instructional support activities.
  • Ability to design, develop, and direct the implementation of plans and programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with staff, students, and citizens.
  • Ability to communicate school system policies and programs to the general public, the media, and government officials.
