School Mental Health Specialist - Projected
General Description of Position:
To expand the availability and provision of mental health services and supports to K-12 students with mild to moderate mental health issues and coordinate with community mental health agencies to provide appropriate referrals for students in need of more intensive services. (This is a grant-funded position.)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
Master's Degree required. Prefer experience directly involved in providing mental health services in a school setting.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Consultation, training, group facilitation skills; skills working with diverse populations; problem solving and team building skills; ability to meet stringent deadlines; listening, verbal and written communication skills, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate effectively; work in a team-oriented fashion; ability to efficiently use computer and applicable software; ability to problem solve; ability to read, analyze and interpret data and effectively present information in front of groups and engage in audience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess one of the following certifications: a licensed master's level psychologist, MDE credentialed master's level school psychologist, or a limited licensed master's level psychologist under the supervision of a licensed master's level psychologist. A licensed master's level social worker or school social worker, or a limited licensed master's level social worker under the supervision of a licensed master's level social worker. A LARA licensed master's level professional counselor. Salary: Step 1 - $75,825 to Step 5 - $92,170

B.Complaint/Grievance Procedure Notice
I.Any person believing that the Calhoun Intermediate School District or any of the District's staff has inadequately applied the principles and/or regulations of non-discrimination laws or district non-discrimination policies may bring forward a complaint, which shall be referred to as a grievance to the district's Civil Rights Coordinator.

II.The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with verbal answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps:
Step 1
A written statement of the grievance signed by the complainant shall be submitted to the District's Civil Rights Coordinator within five (5) business days of receipt of answers to the informal complaint. The Coordinator shall further investigate the matters of grievance and reply in writing to the complainant within five (5) business days.
Step 2
If the complainant wishes to appeal the decision of the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, s/he may submit a signed statement of appeal to the Superintendent of Schools within five (5) business days after receipt of the Coordinator's response. The Superintendent shall meet with all parties involved, formulate a conclusion and respond in writing to the complainant within ten (10) business days.
Step 3
If the complainant remains unsatisfied, s/he may appeal through a signed written statement to the Board of Education within five (5) business days of his/her receipt of the Superintendent's response in step two. In an attempt to resolve the grievance, the Board of Education shall meet with the concerned parties and their representative within twenty (20) business days of the receipt of such an appeal. A copy of the Board's disposition of the appeal shall be sent to each concerned party within ten (10) business days of this meeting.
The District's Coordinator, on request, will provide a copy of the District's grievance procedure and investigate all complaints in accordance with this procedure.

- Administer a comprehensive behavioral health assessment, including the use of validated screening tools, to determine students' needs for specific psychological, health or related services.
- Develop a treatment service plan for students with behavioral, social, emotional or mental health concerns with input from the student, school personnel and parents/caregivers as appropriate.
- Coordinate with school leadership teams to incorporate and enhance mental health and behavioral services in a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) framework.
- Obtain, integrate and interpret information regarding a student's behavior and supports necessary for success in school and life, and plan and management of mental health services.
- Assess the effectiveness of delivered services toward achieving student-driven goals and objectives.
- Assess needs for additional services, making referrals when appropriate to the Community Mental Health System.
- Provide crisis intervention and be an active member on school-based behavior intervention teams.
- Assist student and parents/caregivers in understanding student diagnosis, behavioral health needs and support services offered.
- Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance.
- Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Adhere to board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
