Description:
- Position Summary
- Manages poison exposures and answers poison and drug information questions through the Poison Center hotline. Supervises Poison Information Provider (PIP) staff managing hotline calls after nationally certified in poison information. Assists with drug- and poison-related education of healthcare professionals, the lay public and PIPs. Contributes significantly to assigned projects, which may include grants, contracts, outreach, data organizing and reporting, quality assurance and research. Under the general direction of the Poison Center Director, or their designee, the Clinical Pharmacist formulates recommendations based on current literature and established standards of practice, directly supervises supportive personnel, serves as a resource for drug information.
- Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Graduate of an ACCP accredited school/college of pharmacy is required.
- License/Certifications: Eligible or currently licensed in the State of Maine.
- Experience: Previous experience with or ability to learn to use the Micromedex and Toxicall Database is required. Experience in the monitoring and consultation on drug therapy in patients of all age groups is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- The ability to formulate patient management plans for poisoned patients utilizing computer and text resources, and to locate and interpret primary medical literature is required.
- The analytical skills necessary to identify and resolve problems related to drug therapy and poisonings are required.
- The interpersonal skills necessary to successfully communicate with individuals of multiple cultural and educational backgrounds is required.
