Job Summary

The #1 ranked Kelley Direct Online MBA program (US News and World Report, 2024) seeks a dynamic and experienced Career Strategist who will work with our population of adult learners, proactively working to advance each student's professional success.

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Proactively reaches out to all Kelley Direct Online MBA students throughout their program to provide 1-on-1 career coaching sessions focused on career assessment, goal setting, and action planning.
  • Assists students in identifying and leveraging their strengths, interests, and values to develop career strategies.
  • Guides students in the creation of effective resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles.
  • Designs and delivers career development workshops on topics such as networking, interviewing skills, job search strategies, and salary negotiation.
  • Organizes industry-specific panels, guest speaker events, and webinars to enhance students' knowledge of various career paths.
  • Furthers develop internal library of career development resources, including guides, templates, and online tools.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with employers to identify job and internship opportunities for MBA students.
  • Coordinates and host employer information sessions, career fairs, and networking events.
  • Facilitates connections between students and alumni for mentorship and career opportunities.
  • Assists students in developing effective job search strategies and timelines.
  • Provides support in researching and targeting potential employers.
  • Offers guidance on navigating online job boards, company websites, and professional networking platforms including establishment of a personal brand and use of social media for career advancement.
  • Tracks and reports on coaching appointments; touchpoints with students; workshop participation; and other key metrics.
  • Collects and analyzes data on student career outcomes to inform program development.
  • Tracks student satisfaction with coaching, in-person and virtual professional development, and asynchronous resources and make on-going improvements to increase value and perceived ROI.
  • Administers and interprets career assessment tools.
  • Coaches students on developing essential professional skills, including communication, leadership, and teamwork, referring students to executive or industry-specific coaches as necessary.
  • Provides guidance on networking and negotiations strategies.
  • Collaborates with academic advisors, faculty, and administration to integrate career development into MBA curriculum.
  • Communicates regularly with students through newsletters, social media, and other channels to promote career services and resources.
  • Participates in program meetings, committees, and professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Develops and manages career resources, including online databases, career guides, and job search tools.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of career trends, industry news, and employment opportunities.
  • Ensures that career services are accessible and inclusive to all students, including those from diverse backgrounds and with varying career goals.
  • Leads and participates in special projects aimed at enhancing the career services program.
  • Identifies and implements new technologies and tools to improve the delivery of career services.
  • Stays informed about changes in the job market and adapt services to meet evolving student needs.
General Responsibilities
  • Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning.
  • Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation; graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
  • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
  • Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.
  • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
  • Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.
  • Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty.
  • Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions
  • May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.
  • May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in business, counseling, student personnel, education or closely related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 5 years in career consulting or related field
Preferred
  • 2 years of experience in a business environment.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
