Capital School District is seeking a skilled and dynamic leader to serve as Principal of a K-4 Elementary School. The school offers one of the finest academic programs in the state. The successful candidate must possess strong knowledge of instruction and learning, strong interpersonal skills in working with students, staff, parents and community, commitment and skills to establish a school environment of effective student discipline and management, and the leadership for establishing a shared vision fostering high student achievement through instructional excellence.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Director of Elementary

STARTING DATE: July 15, 2024

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports and works with Superintendent and Directors in carrying out responsibilities that support effective school operations.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates yearly School Success Plan, with aligned school budget.
  • Promotes high expectations for teaching and learning and provides high quality feedback to staff to ensure that expectations are met.
  • Effectively communicates school progress toward meeting School Success Plan goals to stakeholders.
  • Develops and administers budget(s) in the area of responsibility.
  • Ensures the effective implementation of district curricula with an emphasis on curriculum embedded PLC's, high quality professional learning, and use of feedback cycles for staff.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the curriculum, instruction and assessment of students.
  • Engages in and monitors data-driven, student- and instructionally-focused Professional Learning Communities.
  • Creates structures to support effective implementation of MTSS in the school including regularly scheduled meetings, development of a problem solving team, clear communication loops, data collection and analysis, and monitoring of student progress.
  • Uses and analyzes data to instill the importance of developing programs and strategies to enhance opportunities for learning.
  • Monitors and evaluates staff performance through formative and summative measures and completes all required DTGSS and DPAS evaluations on staff in a timely manner.
  • Ensures staff have professional growth opportunities that enhance their performance and improve student learning.
  • Systematically and fairly recognizes accomplishments of staff and students towards a positive school culture.
  • Addresses and resolves issues in a timely manner, and works to prevent potential problems.
  • Manages fiscal and physical resources responsibly, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Complies with federal, state, and board regulations/policies.
  • Ensures a safe and secure school environment and culture that is conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Ensures that staff have the knowledge and expertise necessary to implement best practices in literacy instruction and creates systems to support and monitor effectiveness of implementation.
  • Fosters and maintains positive relationships with staff, students, and families.
  • Collaboratively works to establish a culture that encourages and welcomes families and community members and seeks ways to engage them in student learning.
  • Demonstrates fairness in all interactions with students and staff.
  • Chooses and participates in professional growth that is aligned with his/her professional needs and/or is aligned with the needs of the school/district.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and other district office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college and educational leadership certification
  • Must be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a School Principal and have a current Delaware teaching license.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience (elementary preferred)
  • Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills.
  • Must demonstrate a level of knowledge and/or experience appropriate to the position.
  • Record of demonstrated success as an instructional leader.
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check and child registry check for the candidate who is offered employment.
  • Tuberculin test & physical.
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve Months

Salary and benefits in accordance with the Capital School District administrative salary schedule

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board of Education and State policies.
