Director for Global Research Initiatives in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences (CAFLS) The College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences (CAFLS) at Clemson University invites applications for the position of Professor and Director of Global Research Initiatives in CAFLS.

The position is expected to be located on the main campus of Clemson University, reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Director of the Experiment Station. It is a 9-month appointment as full professor with tenure in the Department of Plant and Environmental Science
General Duties and Responsibilities: The Director serves as the principal internal and external spokesperson for CAFLS Global Research Initiatives. The Director will hold faculty rank and provide leadership and support to maintain and advance strong integrated research and Extension programs appropriate for the CAFLS mission. The Director will provide a vision for innovative initiatives; foster a collegial working environment and collaborative relationships with faculty and stakeholders in the state; and strengthen working relationships with local communities, external funding agencies, research collaborators at partner institutions and other key constituency groups.
Specific duties include:
- Develop and implement a stakeholder-informed CAFLS Global Research Strategy, aligned to address key challenges and drive agriculture- and forestry-led economic development in South Carolina and globally.
- Engage the donor and sponsor communities to align and support CAFLS resource mobilization efforts, to help diversify and expand funding sources.
- Catalyze new research and food system partnerships to enhance the competitiveness and impact of CAFLS faculty.
- Coordinate the development of impactful multidisciplinary global agriculture research programs, contributing to the global reputation of CAFLS and Clemson University
- Mentor researchers and provide vision for research initiative
- Coordinate strategies to build a foundation for future programs with the USAID that build on the unique capabilities, environments, and infrastructure at Clemson that will be important for developing climate-resilient, nutritious crops.
Qualifications
Clemson University seeks a strategic and visionary scientist to lead the Global Research Initiatives in CAFLS. The successful candidate will have experience in a premier academic setting and can serve as a strong advocate for faculty, staff, and students. The candidate will also have demonstrated accomplishments, impacts, and programmatic vision of relevance to the research and Extension programs in CAFLS.
Additional Desired Qualifications Include:
Influential leadership skills including supervisory and budgetary experience
Ability to build support for initiatives through engagement with stakeholders and industry
Strong communication skills and capacity to inspire other
Commitment to the land-grant mission and to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive working environment
Understanding of fundamental and applied research opportunities across the range of disciplines represented within CAFLS
Demonstrated commitment to research and/or Extension as illustrated by achievements in grants, scholarship and academic reputation in the field
Mentoring skills that encourage faculty to achieve their highest potential
Ability to create and maintain appropriate alliances with the diverse stakeholder
