Primary Purpose: Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Schools, to supervise and support school leaders and schools within the Proviso Township High Schools District 209.
Summary:
The Deputy Superintendent for Academics (DSA) is a critical leadership role. The DSA will ensure students' access to high-quality, equitable, results-driven learning environments across the district to provide them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to succeed academically and successfully navigate postsecondary educational opportunities. The DSA provides vision and leadership for innovation and transformation in standards-aligned instruction and assessments in the district, supports educators in cultivating a high level of learning for all students, and ensures curriculum and instructional services are implemented within federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines. The DSA has a laser focus on equity, access, and excellence and addresses disparities in achievement to ensure college and career readiness for all students. The DSA spearheads the strategic implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, school improvement/account-ability, the provision of services for multilingual learners and differently-abled learners across the district.

Essential Functions
- Supervise and direct the District's instructional and curricular programs, assessments, and pedagogical approaches; develop communities of practice with assistant superintendents and principals; focus on deepening leadership practices and utilize leadership tools to improve teaching and learning; and, develop school plans designed to improve student achievement for all student groups.
- Develop and implement transformational strategies for achieving academic excellence through the improvement of the quality of teaching and learning,instructional programs and efforts designed to improve student outcomes.
- Supervise Principals and Executive Director for Student Services and Equity and the Executive Director for Teaching, Learning and Accountability.
- Assist with the facilitation of the strategic planning process focused on developing key performance metrics for improvement.
- Demonstrate pedagogical content knowledge in the core content areas. Understand and implement promising, innovative and effective instructional practices and models.
- Align curriculum and instruction to ensure cohesive, results-driven supports are provided to all schools.
- Maintain positive public relations with staff, parents, community members, businesses and all stakeholders to provide information regarding District operations, programs and goals as well as develop systems of feedback and input from these groups to guide District processes and decisions
- Provide leadership in the overall operations of all instructional services including the identification of and the addressing of school, staff, parent and? student needs as they relate to the development, implementation and assessment of curriculum, instruction and professional development activities
- Direct, oversee and evaluate direct reports' performance in terms of their productivity in achieving departmental and District goals.
- Provide direction and guidance to leverage the District's performance management system to align with the District's strategic plan and goals for student achievement.
- Establish structures and processes to improve underperforming schools and support for all students.
- Monitor and benchmark student performance and progress at the school and District levels.
- Establish cross-functional working groups to support District initiatives.
- Drive the District's equity efforts to ensure that staff implement strategies to raise academic achievement for every student.
- Evaluate current strategies and operations to make sure they align with district objectives. Work with the Superintendent to develop and implement?district-wide short- and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Act as liaison with state and local agencies on a variety of curriculum-related issues and direct the preparation of data for a variety of federal, state and district reports.
- Serve as a member of the Superintendent's cabinet team whose purpose is to lead the plan and reinforce the direction of the District
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications/Requirements: To be considered for this position, the candidate must possess the following required education, certification, skills, experience and/or qualifications:
- Master's Degree in educational administration, or related field from an accredited college or institution. Doctorate preferred.
- Illinois Professional Educator License with a General Administrative license
- PERA training qualified for teacher and administrative evaluations or ability to obtain same upon hire
- A minimum of seven years of successful experience in academic leadership in public schools
