Position Summary/Job Description

The Business Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing processes necessary to meet the financial and operational goals as well as the
objectives of Croswell-Lexington Community Schools. Responsibilities shall be related to the financial and operational areas of the district including budgeting,
purchasing, accounting, and reporting. The Business Manager reports to the Superintendent and supervises all business office functions.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance with a Master's degree in business, finance, or relevant field or Certified Public Accountant certification preferred.
  • MSBO certification preferred, or willing to pursue MSBO certification.
  • Three to five years of experience in administrative management in accounting and/or finance operations with public school and bond experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, and Board of Education policies, and regulations, and procedures relating to financial management.
  • Expertise in financial audits and financial reports.
  • Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills.
  • The ability to establish positive, productive relationships with others.
  • Demonstrates personal integrity and professional ethics.

  • Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:
  • Oversee district finance operations with proper internal control for budgets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, district payroll/insurance/benefits, grant activity, general ledger, and financial reporting for all district funds.
  • Oversee the preparation, budgeting, and submission of all required state and federal reporting to include all grants for the district.
  • Ensure that all records management procedures of the district meet all legal requirements.
  • Maintain financial records of all district funds necessary to provide school officials with accurate accounting reports as the basis for system operation, for the formulation of proper policies and decisions, and for reporting to the appropriate authoritative bodies.
  • Develop accurate annual and long-range budgets, forecasting revenues and expenditures, financial accounting, cash management, cost analysis, promoting the use of modern business practices, and making the necessary adjustments to the budget.
  • Work cooperatively with the Superintendent and all other administrators to resolve problems and ensure the effective operation of educational programs and services.
  • Analyze monthly financial information and prepare monthly financial statements for the Board of Education.
  • Attend all board meetings, committee meetings, and special meetings of the Board of Education and present financial information as needed.
  • Participate in the negotiation of employment contracts for organized employee groups and individual contracts.
  • Ensures compliance with individual, sub-contracted, and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and employee manuals regarding compensation-related matters, including monitoring for updates after bargaining.
  • Meet all transparency requirements, including the continuous improvement of the availability of financial information to the community and staff in an effort to sustain public confidence regarding the district's fiscal responsibility, accountability, and integrity.
  • Monitor the state's legislative activity and analyze the financial impact for the district.
  • Analysis of requests or changes that may have a financial impact to the district, including capital equipment purchases, vendor contracts, program changes, bargaining agreement changes, etc.
  • Operation and capital millage management including preparation of annual millage rates, reporting, and required public hearings.
  • Serves as the administrator of the district purchasing card program.
  • Prepare year-end financial documentation and coordinate the annual financial audit report.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

  • Compensation Package: $90,000-110,000 commensurate with education and experience.
