The Job

We offer a competitive salary with bi-annual step increases of approximately 2.5% up to top salary step of $132,121 annually.

San Bernardino County's Land Use Services Department is looking for a Building Inspection Services Manager to join a dynamic team dedicated to outstanding service, innovation, and teamwork. The Building Inspection Services Manager functions as the principal inspector for the County andis responsible for managing building inspection functions across all regions to ensure consistent interpretation and conformance of building inspection policies. Duties include but are not limited to the following: supervise the work of assigned staff; prepare and sign work evaluations; review and adjust workloads; advise staff regarding code interpretation; assist in settling conflicts with builders concerning code interpretation or requirements. The position reports to the Building Official.

*Official Title is: Supervising Public Works Project Manager.

San Bernardino County is geographically the largest in the United States and the fourteenth largest in population. The Land Use Services Department is dedicated to ensuring a balance in the areas of housing, business, and recreational needs for the diverse cultures and communities of San Bernardino County. This is accomplished through comprehensive regional planning and enforcement of building standards, land uses, and environmental impacts. The Land Use Services Department continues to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors to San Bernardino County by providing a framework for orderly growth while maintaining the highest level of public safety. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment, including a fingerprint check.

Minimum Requirements

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience equivalent to a Regional Building Inspector Supervisor for San Bernardino County, supervising journey-level building inspectors for a public agency in California, with responsibility for supervising building inspection functions; advising staff regarding code interpretations and requirements.
--AND--
CERTIFICATION: Current possession of International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Residential or Commercial Inspector, Certified Building Official, or Certified Plan Examiner. Indicate possession of certification(s) in the appropriate area of the application.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to guide staff in solving problems, while possessing extensive knowledge of the California Building Codes and the day-to-day operations of a Building and Safety regional office. Possession of a college degree in a related field and two years of progressively responsible supervision is highly desirable.
