Purpose of Position:

Hexagon's Mining division is looking for a Hardware Director to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing both functional and technical leadership to a global hardware organization and setting the strategic vision. The current hardware organization incorporates the mechanical, electrical, Radio Frequency, product compliance, hardware architecture and test system disciplines. You will have the opportunity to shape the future and evolve the people, processes, policies, and organization to meet the challenging needs of the business and customers.

This role requires someone who thrives on supporting their teams to effectively and efficiently deliver and support world class mining products that have high quality, and exceed the customer expectations. They will accomplish this by leveraging their unique leadership, mentoring and communication skills.
Major Areas of Responsibility:

As a Hardware Director, you will be responsible for:
Working with the Vice President of Hardware Engineering on key strategies including collaboration opportunities between Hexagon's Mining and Autonomy & Positioning organizations as well as across other Hexagon divisions.
Setting the vision and goals of the hardware organization and ensuring the teams understand them and are focused on achieving them.
Ensuring your global teams are highly collaborative and interact effectively within the product development, operations, and product management teams.
Direct interaction with the key manufacturing and supply chain leaders to ensure the teams are addressing the right issues, at the right priority, using the right life cycle processes.
Mentoring your technical staff and evolving their skills and experience as needed to ensure the product development projects are executed as per the project parameters, risks are mitigated, and challenges experienced are addressed in a structured and expedient way.
Direct involvement with all development and pre-development project planning, project reviews and project approvals.
Supporting your team with key project and resource priority decisions.
Actively monitoring field quality and establishing correct actions and plans when required.
Driving continuous improvement and consistency of development and risk processes.
Working directly with other Engineering Directors to establish effective budgeting, planning, strategy alignment and overall engineering processes.
Mentoring the HW architect and helping to evolve 'system thinking' within the Mining engineering team.
Supporting the team with the evolution of the Tucson engineering lab and infrastructure.

Knowledge and Experience - Required:
B.Sc. in Engineering (or equivalent)
10+ years' experience in leading and shaping high-technology teams and products with focus on hardware and embedded products
Clear understanding of effective hardware design processes in both new product development and life cycle support of existing products in the field
Strong upward and downward written and verbal communication skills
A creative and strong desire for continuous improvement

Strong collaboration, facilitation, mentorship and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across a geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary team
Analytical problem-solving skills with systems thinking and attention to detail

Knowledge and Experience - Desired:
Firmware and embedded computing experience
Experience with Product compliance and regulated substances knowledge
Experience in robust product design for mining environments
Familiar with mining applications and solutions
Understanding of Agile Engineering principles
Application of reliability engineering principles, including HALT, FMEA, FTA, MTBF, and RCA
Travel:
  • Travel will be required
