Summary:
The Workplace Health, Safety (WHS) and Sustainability Leader will implement and lead a comprehensive WHS and Sustainability program. This role acts as a senior advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on all WHS and Sustainability matters and is responsible for developing the company's workplace, health, safety, and sustainability strategy and implementation thereof, as well as fostering a safety culture. This individual will understand and ensure compliance with safety and environmental legislation and relevant WHS government agencies, and ensure that policies, procedures, and guidelines to promote risk mitigation principles and lifesaving rules are implemented throughout the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Leadership and oversight of a comprehensive health and safety strategy for the organization focused on risk reduction, building a strong WHS culture, contractor management, and driving continuous improvement in WHS performance.
Execute and maintain the organization's risk management approach to identify, assess, and control safety risks (e.g., critical risk, occupational, process safety) to the organization.
Conduct field safety reviews, audits, and provides recommendations for compliance. Lead the development and implementation of an effective safety audit and assessment program.
Ensure an assurance program is in place to measure and monitor health and safety risk controls to deliver on the WHS strategy.
Ensure for accuracy and collection of safety metrics and data to inform stakeholders and proactively respond with appropriate plans of corrective action. Present on WHS program performance
to the Board of Directors/key stakeholders.
Oversee that all sites complete and abide by the incident reporting procedures, ensure adequate documentation is provided, and thorough investigations are completed as appropriate by various
team members for all incidents, injuries and near misses. Provide support on a 24 hour/7 day a week basis, as needed.
Engage with personnel across the company to clarify and resolve health and safety matters and improve overall safety culture and program effectiveness.
Lead and assist with access to safety training, consultants, contractors, and other personnel to support accident reduction, accident prevention, compliance, and safety data analysis.
Ensure compliance with safety federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Sustainability functions and responsibilities include:
Define and execute a sustainability strategy that aligns with and supports the overall business strategy. Adjust strategy and roadmap on an ongoing basis as conditions change or the business
strategy shifts.
Monitor/measure to ensure that sustainability initiatives and processes deliver desired results. Collect accurate metrics and data (e.g., no greenwashing), and report proactively to key stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with relevant environmental laws and regulations.
Leverage effective change management processes to build awareness, buy-in, and ownership of sustainability strategy and action plans.
Manage key stakeholder relationships (community members/leaders, political figures, grant funding sources, etc.) with integrity and candor.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated best-in-class competency and leadership experience in an operation, safety, environmental or equivalent leadership role, with proven skills in strategy, program management, process execution and leadership capabilities.
At least 15 years of operational leadership or WHS delivery experience in a high-risk or complex safety environment. Candidates with prior experience involving digital installations or field construction operations preferred.
Prior experience performing enterprise-wide health and safety audits and driving change management policies/practices based on findings.
Prior direct management responsibility for team members, with demonstrated ability as a transformational change agent with strong coaching/mentoring ability.
Experience facilitating training to audiences of various levels and capabilities.
Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent level of education and experience as substitute for degree.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.

Language Skills:
Proficiency in English; Spanish a plus.

Physical Demands/ Other Qualifications:
Travel required up to 40% of the time conducting visits to field sites.
Reliable transportation, current driver's license, minimum liability insurance as required by state of vehicle registration.

Work Environment:
The anticipated work week is Monday through Friday. occasional off-site meetings, early morning, and late evening meetings as needed to maintain flexibility to industry demands. May be exposed to outdoor weather elements and/or conditions and odors/smells. Ability to work in a setting where constant changes may occur and communicating with various employees of various levels and personalities is crucial.
