POSITION SUMMARY

The Director (Academic Enrichment Programs) assures the successful development and support for a rigorous and standards-based curriculum and associated curricular resources in the academic enrichment areas of signature programs, physical education, health, gifted and talented education. The director supervises and leads all of the district's academic enrichment coordinators and specialists to administer the curricular programs and ensure the effective implementation of the Georgia Standards of Excellence. The incumbent assumes responsibility for the systemic implementation of the curricular program, including standards, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning, in all assigned academic enrichment areas.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Master's degree in education, education leadership, or a related field required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification at a level 5 or higher in Educational Leadership or Instructional/Curriculum Leadership
  • Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation
WORK EXPEREINCE:
  • 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in K-12 education required, inclusive of 3 years of leadership experience
  • Experience in the area of professional coaching required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and ability to become an expert on curriculum, Georgia Standards of Excellence, and methods of instruction for the district
  • Possesses successful experience designing and delivering professional learning; engaging a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to plan, organize, provide leadership, and work collaboratively with mid to large-sized teams
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills and has the ability to create trusting and productive relationships
  • Has strong organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Creates and implements a cohesive learning system consistent with the district's vision, mission, strategic initiatives, and policies that includes curriculum development and improvement, effective instructional practices, and a balanced assessment system for assigned academic enrichment areas.
  • Establishes and maintains systems, processes, and practices that support a college- and career-going culture to ensure our graduates are fully ready for post-secondary success.
  • Provides direction and leadership on the development of a comprehensive academic enrichment curriculum for all schools, including curricular guides with scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, know/do-show charts, assessment strategies, as well as units of study with aligned, embedded assessments
  • Develops, in collaboration with the coordinators, district and school professional learning programs for teachers, support staff, and administrators to assist in raising the level of instructional performance and student achievement
  • Recommends the expansion or elimination of courses and programs as necessary
  • Supervises the selection and adoption of new textbooks, instructional materials, and methods for assigned academic enrichment programs under the direction of the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Collaborates with other curriculum directors to ensure all instructional initiatives and practices are PK-12 aligned
  • Works collaboratively with other departments for the integration of district curriculum aligned with the district's strategic plan
  • Supports, where applicable, the implementation of the signature programs (International Baccalaureate, STEM, and College & Career Readiness)
  • Integrates social emotional learning (SEL) within the curriculum
  • Communicates effectively with community and stakeholders
  • Sets, assesses, and verifies short-term and long-term goals of the curriculum
  • Uses data to make decisions and adjustments to the curriculum program
  • Designs and implements professional learning to support the curriculum using effective practices, including research on theory and content standards
  • Provides and supports ongoing professional learning for assigned staff to increase their effectiveness
  • Develops and reviews the department's annual budget; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data; monitors and authorizes expenditures following established guidelines
  • Supervises, evaluates, and holds accountable the performance and professionalism of assigned staff; interviews and selects employees, and recommends reassignments, terminations, and disciplinary actions
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative
