Founded in 1834, Tulane University School of Medicine (Tulane SOM) seeks candidates for the newly created position of Section Chief, Geriatric Medicine, Medical Director of the Center for Aging and Endowed Chair in Geriatric Medicine, This prestigious role will provide leadership, direction, and innovation in developing a patient focused program of integrative geriatric medicine, partnering with other clinical and research areas within the School of Medicine. The candidate will be a nationally known expert in geriatric medicine. This associate/full professor will collaborate with others at the school and in the community to improve healthcare, develop new therapies, and innovate care delivery for the elderly. The role will cut across Departmental boundaries and will aim to build strength in the three pillars of academic medicine: Clinical care, research and education. The potential to evolve the scope of this program is vast. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in visioning and building effective teams focused on clinical care, research, education, and administration. Qualifications
The ideal candidate should: Hold an MD, MD/PhD, PhD, D.O., or equivalent degree, with current board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Neurology. Preferably, possess additional certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties in Geriatric Medicine and/or Hospice and Palliative Medicine, though not required. Be eligible for medical licensure in Louisiana and academically qualified for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Demonstrate achievement as a faculty member in a medical school, with expectations of holding the rank of associate professor or professor at Tulane University School of Medicine. Have a national reputation as a leader, clinician, educator, and/or researcher in Gerontology, Geriatrics, and/or Palliative Care. Show effectiveness in clinical program development, professional education, and research within an academic setting. Have a successful track record in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining faculty. Demonstrate success in creating and executing strategic plans for academic physicians/scientists. Exhibit proficiency in leading or supporting medical research and translating research findings into actionable recommendations. Possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
