The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as our Equal Employment Opportunity Engagement Officer

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation, tackling the toughest challenges in science and engineering for the Department of the Air Force. As our EEO and Engagement Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our workforce, ensuring all voices are heard, and helping to transform AFRL into an employer of choice for a broad pool of talent.

The position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide technical and strategic leadership, championing AFRL's commitment to being an employer of choice.
  • Connectedness and Belonging: Developing strategies to foster an environment where every team member feels connected and valued.
  • Research and Resilience: Investigating workforce trends and guiding targeted resilience efforts.
  • Equal Opportunity Advocacy: Collaborate with the Human Capital Team to identify and overcome barriers to equal employment opportunities in the workforce.
  • Strategic Planning: Lead human capital planning and oversee talent management initiatives.
  • Engagement and Collaboration: Engaging with EO offices and partner with Organizational Health and Development.
  • Briefing Leadership: Regularly brief AFRL Commander and Executive Leaders on related strategies and policies.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Applicants must be able to obtain, or already have, and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR/DO-02/GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Applicants must be able to meet the OPM qualification standards for the 0260 series: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0200/equal-employment-opportunity-series-0260/

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to EEO; EEO or relevant certifications are highly desired
  • Strong track record in managing change with an understanding of the contexts, cultures and politics within institutions that impact the implementation of effective equal employment opportunity change efforts
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing program or process changes based on barrier analysis and an excellent command of modern EEO concepts
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in multiple communication modes, including social media, with the ability to articulate the importance of equal opportunity, inclusion, belonging, and diversity to the broader workforce
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to provide oversight for assessments related to organizational level climate, belonging, and EEO
  • History of effective leadership in a culture of shared governance
