Primary Purpose:
In partnership with the primary network curriculum team, Curriculum and Instruction Specialist (CIS) - Mathematics on the Primary Learning Acceleration Team will provide monthly training for teachers and bi-weekly training for leaders at ten focus schools. Mathematics specialists will ensure that all development aligns with research-based pedagogical practices that promote deep understanding and critical thinking skills. They will help teachers develop a deep understanding of and deconstruct the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for their grade level and content area. Mathematics specialists will review the units of study, ensure opportunities for practice and feedback, and engage in scholar work analysis. Additionally, the Mathematics specialists will co-plan with the Director of the Tutor Corps to align Tier 2 interventions (tutorials) and resources, ensuring scholars can access and master the Tier 1 curriculum at the ten focus schools.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Curricular Responsibilities
    • Manage content visions and systems for supports for network-wide campus leaders to support teacher capacity building.
    • Get input on curriculum from leaders, teachers, and curriculum and instruction peers to ensure the curriculum is in alignment with the IB Programme Standards and Practices as well vertically aligned to content in different grade bands.
    • Monitor implementation of the curriculum through cycles of campus observation and feedback (e.g., walkthroughs, school reviews).?
  • Teacher and Leader Professional Development
    • Provide content specific professional development to school leaders (e.g., whole group, small group, one-on-one coaching) to further develop their instructional eye.
    • Analyze scholar assessment data (qualitative and quantitative) and share with school leaders to determine how to support in developing teachers, refining units of study, or define targeted intervention support.
    • Provides curricular leadership to school leaders by utilizing research-based teaching and learning practices.?
  • Campus Support
    • Provide coordinated support after strategy for addressing the needs of the ten focus schools to rapidly accelerate student outcomes.
    • Works with Data Team to document teacher, school, and student subgroup performance and track progress toward organizational and school goals.
    • Assists campus leaders in designing, preparing, and facilitating content specific professional development around instructional planning and IB Programme Standards and Practices.

Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
  • Education Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B.S.) from four-year college or university required. Master's degree preferred but not required. Experience with curriculum writing and inquiry-based instruction. International Baccalaureate experience a plus.
  • Experience Requirements
    • Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience
    • Formal school leadership experience (e.g., Assistant Principal, Dean of Instruction) preferred.
    • Leadership experiences providing teachers and leaders with content specific professional development.
    • Demonstrated and measurable student achievement in the content area on state, nationally norm- referenced tests, or college readiness exams (ACT, SAT, IB, AP, etc.)
    • Ability to design high quality units and lesson plans and assessments aligned to an objective.
    • Understanding of IB instructional and planning practices preferred

  • Technology:
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in Microsoft Office applications and have the ability to learn and use computer software, as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment.
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Starting Salary: $90,000
