Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The purpose of this position is to uphold KSDE's responsibility to provide leadership and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations for the Individuals with Disabilities Education (IDEA) Act, the Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA) Act, the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA), Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER), Emergency Assistance for Non-Public Schools (EANS), and implementation of Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS). The employee serves as an Assistant Director on the Special Education and Title Services team and supervises implementation of general supervision responsibilities of monitoring and providing technical assistance for accountability.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in relevant degree field(s) as determined by the agency.

Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications:
  • Qualifications for a valid teaching license;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and team building skills;
  • Ability to self-initiate and work independently within the framework set by the SETS Director;
  • Skilled in critical thinking, problem solving and shared decision making;
  • Skilled in planning, staff development and customer services;
  • Ability to manage team resources efficiently and effectively; and
  • Skilled in using technology in innovative ways.
Preferred Experience:
  • Professional license as a teacher, building or district level administrator;
  • Supervisory or administrative experience in federal programs such as Title I, Title VIB Special Education and participation in the implementation of Kansas MTSS and KansaStar implementation;
  • Experience in grants management; and
  • Previous supervisory experience in the agency or in a school district.
