Position Description
Provides effective instruction in assigned courses.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.
*Instructs and guides the courses in the classroom, clinical, and laboratory settings in an efficient and effective manner
*Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
*Prepares thoroughly for instructional responsibilities
*Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
*Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
*Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
Selects learning experiences and clinical assignments that facilitate student attainment of course student learning outcomes
Supervises and evaluates student classroom and clinical performance
Obtains and maintains laboratory supplies/safe use of laboratory equipment
Coordinates the use of specific facilities and resources both within and outside the college, as directed
Develops supplemental instructional materials for presentation of theoretical and laboratory content
Acts as academic adviser to assigned curriculum students; including pre-registering advisees during designated period each semester
Maintains records of each advisee's enrollment, courses taken, courses dropped, grades received and progress toward graduation
Makes recommendation for admission criteria
Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
Assists with on-going curriculum development, implementation and evaluation
Maintains regular office hours
Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
Uses assessment techniques to improve student learning outcomes and teaching methods
Serves on college or department committees as needed
Attends professional development opportunities when possible
Participates in professional meetings and community service
Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text and constructing a syllabus
Provides the student with opportunity to evaluate teaching effectiveness
Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
Participates in graduation exercise
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
Good organizational skills
Innovative, creative, motivated and work well with others
Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills
Able to maintain records accurately and able to meet deadlines consistently
Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing
A current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
Must have two (2) calendar years' prior full time employment, or the equivalent, in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse
Must meet educational requirements of the NC Board of Nursing within three (3) years of hire
Unofficial transcripts must be attached with your online application prior to submission or submitted to Human Resources immediately upon completing the application. If your transcripts are not submitted, your application may not receive full consideration.
Preferences:
Master's of Science in Nursing
Teaching experience in a program at or above the level of nurse aid
Nursing practice experience in assigned clinical area
