Primary Purpose:
Provides accountability, structure, direction, and support to secondary schools, including the implementation of instructional best practices and strategies to improve and sustain student achievement and performance on local, state, and national assessments. Provides leadership for the implementation of professional and staff development and training that promote the use of research-based instructional and assessment strategies. Serves as liaison between secondary principals and Central Administration on instructional and program implementation issues. Serves as the principal supervisor and coach for secondary principals.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree
Texas Mid-management or Principal Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures, including special education laws.
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction and current research in secondary instruction.
Knowledge of successful at-risk programs or interventions related to state and national assessments.
Knowledge of budgetary and personnel management.
Leadership skills and knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices. Skill in communicating effectively with others, both orally and in writing.
Skill in interpreting data and reports, and using the analysis for increasing student achievement.
Skill in coordinating the instructional programs at the middle and high school level.
Skill in working with computers, including but not limited to, email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments. Skill in problem solving at a systems level.
Experience:
Five years experience as a successful classroom teacher, and
Three years experience as a successful secondary campus administrator.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:Provide accountability, structure, direction, and support to secondary principals for the successful implementation of all instructional programs; conduct periodic formative and summative evaluations of secondary principals; direct the implementation of instructional practices that address a wide range of academic abilities and address the physical, social, and emotional differences among students in order to foster intellectual growth; meet regularly with secondary principals and other instructional leaders to facilitate discussion of issues and model use of innovative and effective problem solving and decision making; assist in the selection of leadership staff at secondary campuses. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Elementary Education to implement strategies to effectively prepare students for transition from elementary to middle school. Work with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to support the Directors of CTE, Advanced Academics and College/Career/Military Readiness. Collaborate with middle and high school principals to implement strategies to effectively prepare students for transition from middle school to high school. Work with other executive team members to develop and provide presentations to the Board of Trustees and other groups as assigned. Conduct long-term planning with secondary principals to assist with the implementation of the secondary educational instructional programs; assist in implementing creative approaches to staff training to assure positive impact on student achievement on local, state, and national assessments. Collaborate with other executive team members for long-range planning and District oversight of instructional operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise middle and high school principals.
