Job Description

Purpose of Position:Under direction, serves as a principal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Licensed Nursing Home Administrator of the Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility and exercises wide latitude in the use of independent judgment and initiative in the administrative direction, coordination, and control of major activities or functions related, but not limited, to 1) Patient Relations; 2) Resident Clinics; 3) Rehabilitation Therapy; 4) Social Work; 5) Therapeutic Recreation; 6) Auxiliary Program; 7) Volunteer Program; and 8) Administrator-On-Duty/Administrator-on-Call Program. Serves as a principal assistant leadership on operational matters and may be directly responsible for operational activities for specific projects and/programs.

Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. In the absence of the Chief Executive Officer/Licensed Nursing Home Administrator/ assume responsibilities as the Senior Leader for the facility regarding daily operations
2. In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and the Senior Leadership Team, plan and direct operations of the facility and develop a strategic planning process to ensure its viability
3. In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer (or designee), Senior Leadership, and Department Directors, develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets to effectively utilize fiscal resources for short and long-range planning and operational activities
4. Direct, supervise and coordinate the operational functions of Department/Services

a. Ensures Patient Relations facilitates resolution for concerns or issues residents and family members may have with their experience while striving to provide a comfortable, caring and professional presence and utilizing problem solving skills and effective communication, to achieve resolution to concerns

b. Ensure the Resident Clinics are planned, implemented, and evaluated to meet the care and treatment needs of the residents

c. Ensure Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, and Audiology programs are planned, implemented, and evaluated to meet the rehabilitative needs of the residents

d. Ensure Social Work programs are planned, implemented, and evaluated to meet resident psychological and social needs and preferences

e. Ensure Therapeutic Recreation programs are planned, implemented, and evaluated to meet the needs and recreational interests of residents

f. Ensures that the Auxiliary and Volunteer programs effectively utilizes the time, talent, and personal interests of the participants to supplement the work of staff in providing services that are important to our residents, their families, and the staff

g. Ensures the Administrator-On-Duty/Administrator-on-Call program effectively addresses operational issues on nights, weekends, and holidays
6. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, policies, procedural guidelines, evaluations, and monitoring techniques to ensure the attainment of the Facility's strategic goals and objectives
7. Audit and evaluate existing programs and make recommendations for corrective actions and/or improvements
8. Monitor progress pertaining to the resolution of operational problems and corrective actions implemented to expedite improvements
9. Direct the administration and coordination of special project studies
10. Conduct and/or participate in meetings
11. Assist in the design and implementation of resident-centered/resident engagement activities, staff engagement activities, and Helping Healers Heal initiatives
12. Participate in the recruitment and on-boarding process of Senior Leaders and Department/Service Directors
13. Conduct performance reviews of Department/Service Directors to determine their effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement

a. As a result of the evaluations, create professional growth and development action plans in collaboration with the Department/Service Directors
14. Represent the Chief Executive Officer in the development of cooperative relationships with community groups (e.g., Roosevelt Island Operating Cooperation; Coler Task Force; Friends of Coler, Open Doors, etc.), elected officials, and agencies
15. Performs related duties, as directed

Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Engineering, Health Care Specialization, Physical or Social Sciences or a related discipline and five years progressively responsible administrative, managerial and/or consultative experience; or
2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines as listed in #1 above and six years of progressively responsible administrative, managerial and/or consultative experience; or
3. A satisfactory combination of training, education, and/or experience. However, all candidates must have a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in disciplines as listed in #1 above

Department Preferences

New York State Licensed Nursing Home Administrator OR in pursuit of obtaining a New York State License, Nursing Home Administrator
