The role in a nutshell:

Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Sourcing, you will oversee the procurement strategy for major mining commodities and services. You will be responsible for handling annual portfolios within the CAD$100m to CAD$500m range, while fine-tuning procurement strategies to address the specific needs of Glencore's various locations across Canada.

Working within a decentralized team, you will collaborate nationally and globally to drive cost savings and process enhancements by leading strategic sourcing initiatives leveraging volume and employing a variety of strategies such as competitive bidding, direct negotiations, and strategic partnerships.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

  • Provide strategic direction and dynamic support in procurement;
  • Work with senior management in the various businesses and demonstrate a clear understanding of their relationships and requirements;
  • Lead multi-functional strategic sourcing teams for various commodities and services;
  • Identify and develop sourcing opportunities in Canada;
  • Support global initiatives to enhance operational value;
  • Manage site-specific procurement activities periodically;
  • Communicate price changes, develop forecasts, and alerts;
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert in key commodities/services.


Do you have what it takes?
  • Bachelor's or College Degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field, demonstrating a strong academic foundation;
  • Minimum of 5 years in a strategic sourcing or procurement role, with a proven history of achieving results;
  • Experience working with a defined strategic sourcing process, ensuring efficient procurement practices;
  • Background in operations, maintenance, engineering, or procurement within a related industry is highly valued;
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate change resulting from the sourcing process driving organizational success;
  • Upholds the highest professional ethics and integrity in all interactions and decisions;
  • Proficient at juggling numerous responsibilities and autonomously organizing time, guaranteeing the timely fulfillment of obligations;
  • Capable of leading and collaborating within multifunctional teams, creating a cohesive and productive work environment;
  • Proficiency in delivering constructive feedback to suppliers and maintaining strategic direction for efficient outcomes;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and priorities, maintaining focus on key goals;
  • Enthusiastic about actively contributing to an open work environment where ideas are shared, and innovation thrives;
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication, equipped with effective persuasion and negotiation skills.


Travel: You will be required to travel up to 10% of the time and work with colleagues located in different time zones.
