Salary Schedule / Grade: Refer to Administrative Salary Schedule

F.L.S.A Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY:

The Director will provide leadership and expertise in the development and implementation of special education programs. The Director will continually work to improve the educational outcomes for Students With Disabilities and be a champion for equity and a diversity agent who advocates for the needs of all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute the implementation/training of the onboarding process for new Office for Exceptional Children (OEC) staff.
  • Supervise, train and monitor IEP Writers
  • Oversee the internal monitoring and building manager processes.
  • Prepare and submit excess cost and catastrophic cost reimbursement reports
  • Conduct State Performance Profile (SPP) indicators compliance reviews.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel, including non-public staff.
  • Conduct classroom walk-throughs with academic coordinators and analyze data for action planning.
  • Work collaboratively with the department leadership and building principals to coordinate and monitor the implementation of special education services and alignment of programs, services, and operations.
  • Direct the delivery of educational services to students with disabilities ensuring that all students receive appropriate educational and support services in the least restrictive environment.
  • Identify, coordinate, and implement relevant professional development for special education academic coordinators and teachers.
  • Act as subject matter expert on all current state and federal mandates related to special education.
  • Consult with the supervisor to identify and address ongoing/emerging special education needs of students.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development activities as needed.
  • Serve on various committees.
  • Submit reports on time.
  • Serve as an instructional model and provide leadership in the advancement of best practices.
  • Monitor staff for complete and accurate student records as required by state law, district policies, and administrative regulations and ensure records are submitted on time.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, resolve behavioral issues, and address academic progress as needed.
  • Advocate for meaningful student access to the curriculum (inclusion, differentiated instruction, flexible service delivery, etc).
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and federal mandates related to instruction of students with special needs.
  • Support academic coordinators and building principals in understanding and responding to staff discipline, building challenges and district, state and federal compliance matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education K-12 Intervention Specialist license
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education administrative license or eligibility for an Alternative Administrative license
  • Minimum of 5 years of special education experience within a school setting
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Documented experience in a supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in working with students with various disabilities


PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
  • Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed in an office
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
  • Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
  • Frequent travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
