The salary range for this position is $123,191 - $161,289.
We are looking for a Packaging Manager to manage the packaging and characterization of surface ion traps, which serve as the heart of IonQs quantum computers. In this role, you will work with a diverse team to improve packaging processes and characterization techniques while delivering company-critical devices for both production and development. In addition, you will work closely with other team leads to define near and long-term device demand, manage supply chain, develop novel characterization techniques, and drive verification and validation of new designs, materials, and processes. This critical team member will work to drive future designs through a disciplined engineering approach as we progress on our mission to build the worlds best quantum computers to solve the worlds most complex problems.
Responsibilities:
- Manage low volume production in a cleanroom environment for novel opto-electronic packages including incoming quality control, assembly, device characterization, and verification
- Lead cleanroom team to define best practices, inventory management, process flow, continuous process improvement, work instructions, and EH&S guidelines
- Identify and implement methods to improve process repeatability and reliability of opto-electronic packages
- Manage equipment install to add new capabilities and/or improve existing operations
- Implement process data tracking methods and device history records
- Assist in root cause failure analysis of microfabricated devices; recommend and implement resolutions
- Generate documentation for lab best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), assembly instructions, test plans and verification and validation (V&V) plans and reports
- Monitor project performance to understand impacts to cost, schedule, and technical performance; actively prioritize deliverables, determine critical path amongst cross-functional deliverables
- Assist with the transition from research and development to production, including development of first articles and technology demonstrations
- Coach and develop team members on skill proficiency and performance with regular feedback
Youd be a good fit with:
- Bachelors or higher in Engineering or relevant field/discipline
- 3+ years managing R&D, new product introduction (NPI), and/or low-volume manufacturing team
- 5+ years of hands-on process development of electronics or device packaging experience, ideally working within a cleanroom
- 5+ years working in a fast-paced R&D or new product introduction (NPI) team to deliver novel devices
- Experience with FMEA
- Expertise in cleanroom procedures and best practices
- Experience with data aggregation and statistical analysis/reporting
- Excellent communication skills and ability to perform hands-on work while leading a small team
- Experience performing low-noise RF and other electrical measurements
Youd be a great fit with:
- PhD in Engineering or relevant field/discipline
- Experience with micro-optics assembly and packaging
- Expertise in identifying and using packaging techniques, components, and materials to manage mechanical stress and thermal expansion/contraction
- Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) device/component handling and knowledge of cryogenic and UHV-compatible materials
- SEM and optical profilometry experience
- Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or other engineering relevant language
Location:
This position is located in our bright, airy headquarters in College Park, MD.
Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland which is only a 15-minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located near our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
