The position will be based in Connecticut and reports to the President of Berkley Management Protection. Required travel will be approximately 10%. Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Provide vision and leadership to the Claims organization in accordance with BMP's strategic direction
- Cultivates and delivers a culture that excels in communication and collaboration
- Own the development, implementation and planning of claims best practices, metrics, reporting processes, results and technology capabilities.
- Build and manage personnel: staff development, technical expertise training and career development
- Implement sound litigation management practices, including management of panel counsel, to responsibly contain legal cost, including allocated and unallocated expenses associate with the Claim organization
- Contribute to the formulation of our product position, underwriting rules, manuals and best practices
- Communicate effectively with clients, agents, cedants and reinsurers on relevant claim developments
- Advise on policy language and provide continued policy governance and maintenance
- Track state and federal court decisions on coverage issues and provide timely and appropriate legal advice
- Research and monitor emerging issues, cases, statutes, regulations and other legal matters and trends impacting profitability and appetite
- Establish partnership across Operating Units and serve as liaison on legal issues
- Partner with CUO to support the establishment of strong product governance including Corporate Charters, Audit structure, Authority, Referrals and Collaboration Guidelines
- Collaborate with the Operating unit Operations leadership and field underwriting leadership to adjust practices and protocols for operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, J.D. and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant claims and insurance experience: 5+ years of Product Coverage Experience within the Management Liability suite of products (D&O, Cyber, EPL, Crime, Fiduciary)
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans
- Strong Project Management skills, research skills and demonstrated legal acumen
- Execution oriented with attention to details driven by natural curiosity and competitive spirit
- Must have strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Past experience working collaboratively with Underwriting, Operations, IT, Actuary and Field
- Ability to travel up to 10%
