Roles and Responsibilities:
- Manages garage personnel (garage supervisor, deport force and operators) to ensure service requirements are met and that work is assigned in an efficient manner to ensure safe, clean, courteous, and reliable service for our customers, and proper utilization of manpower.
- Identifies trends and develops action plans to correct negative patterns relating to accidents, vandalism, complaints, and safety hazards in the work environment.
- Coordinates daily with the Superintendent of Maintenance to ensure that adequate buses are available to meet the schedule and extra service needs. Controls and monitors defect card system.
- Motivates, trains, counsels personnel and reviews their performance to ensure compliance to company policies and procedures.
- Interviews, instructs, and disciplines agreement employees, conducts first step grievance hearings.Investigates and resolves garage issues with union officials and provides documentation / expert testimony throughout the grievance process. Ensures grievance hearings are conducted according to the collective bargaining agreement.
- Monitors expenditures, participates in the development of the budget, ensures proper collection of revenue and payroll auditing.
- Coordinates with other departments. Reviews and recommends service changes.Implements new schedules.
- Monitors CGS, and reviews reports on a daily basis for deviations in procedures or revenue.Counsels / disciplines operators and investigates deviations to ensure consistent revenue collection.
- Ensures garage supervision (management and field salary employees) is fully trained and able to properly operate all computer programs necessary to keep the garage in full compliance with established procedures (e.g. payroll systems, VMIS, accident grading, Support Force, lost and found, discipline systems)and all new technologies to be implemented in the future.
- High school diploma, or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in transportation systems sector*, to include four (4) years of supervisory experience.
Note : Experience as a depot master is considered supervisory experience for the purposes of qualifying for this position.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of bus operations and manpower utilization.
- Knowledge of NJ Transit support systems such as payroll systems, VMIS, accident grading, Support Force, lost and found, and discipline systems.
- Must be proficient in computer software applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
