The School of Public Health-Bloomington seeks and accomplished, highly-motivated leader to serve as Director of Faculty Operations within the Office of the Dean. This individual will directly assist the Executive Associate Dean (EAD) with internal operations. Key components of the role include providing leadership and coordination of faculty affairs policies and practices including assisting with recruitment and retention, the faculty promotion and tenure process, faculty sabbatical applications, and addressing current faculty needs.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Requires a strong understanding of the school and campus key priorities and strategic projects to ensure the EAD is spending time in the most effective and impactful ways.
  • Interacts with a wide range of school and campus constituents regarding faculty policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates appropriate discretion, and sound judgment in all meetings and projects.
  • Proactively coordinates workflows and time management meeting necessary school, campus, and university deadlines.
  • Manages complex policies and procedures ensuring that all requirements are met for applicants (e.g., hiring/promotion/tenure/sabbatical) and for the school.
  • Works with department chairs to project department needs for faculty hires through quantitative and qualitative data analyses; presents data and findings in digestible format for leadership review.
  • Works with Dean's Office-level leadership on school activities as well as distinguished visitors and guests.
  • Works collaboratively with school leadership to plan and facilitate recruitment and retention events as appropriate.
  • Organizes mentoring, professional development, and continuing education activities for early career through senior faculty members.
  • Develops project plans, analyzes project outcomes and data, and tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and performance gaps.
  • Works with EAD to creatively resolve challenges and removes barriers as needed to ensure optimal procedural outcomes.
  • Identifies and cultivates faculty members roles toward creating an engaging SPH-B community.
  • Participates in leadership meetings and strategic implementation of organizational decisions.
  • Manages medium to large projects, from start to finish, ensuring on time completion.
  • Develops project plan(s) and efficiently analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
  • Coordinates and facilitates efforts of project team(s) consisting of various faculty and staff members.
  • Communicates ongoing changes in tasks, goals, or performance.
  • Collaborates to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
  • Provides supervision, guidance, and support to less experienced peers.
  • Manages large projects of the most complex nature, from start to finish, ensuring on time completion within budget.
  • Analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
  • Communicates ongoing changes in tasks, goals, or performance; supervises and trains project staff as needed.
  • Develops and maintains project schedules, goals, and communication.
  • Matrix manages teams to develop, evaluate, and revise project processes.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
  • Participates in client meetings, contract finalization, and development of requirements and specifications.
  • Provides guidance and support to less experienced peers.
General Responsibilities
  • Implements the organization's strategic vision and direction by developing, initiating, and/or supporting new programs and services, creating annual work plans, and operating within a board-approved balanced budget.
  • Ensures the maintenance of effective office management, financial management, record-keeping, and equipment and software.
  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including developing branding strategy and targeting audiences for these events.
  • Oversees or represents the program in communications to program participants, supporting institutions, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public. Troubleshoots and resolves issues and programs.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds.
  • Oversees research and academic activities budgets for programs. Identifies funding requirements and funding sources to ensure adequate resources to sustain program goals. Leads grant writing.
  • Evaluates the performance of lower-level staff, recommends development and performance plans, promotions and disciplinary action and is accountable for consistent administration of university policies.
  • Keep abreast of best practices to create and implement policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
