Regional Estimating Engineer

The Regional Estimating Engineer (REE) assists the Senior Director of Inside Sales and Engineering in driving revenue generation while improving the quality of final products (systems) by providing proper engineering and oversight to all significant projects in the assigned region.

The Inside Sales and Engineering Team is the first support system for the Account Managers in the company for any sales, technical, and application support aiding in their efforts. The Regional Estimating Engineer serves as a member of the training and audit group, ensuring consistency, quality, and profitability for the group from branch to branch.

The REE is assigned to a region. Positions are based out of either Central U.S., Gulf, East Coast or South Region.

Responsibilities:

Engineering
  • Prepare design calculations in support of our pumping systems (dewatering, bypass pumping)
  • Provide operational and application support on both national and branch projects where engineering services are required (pre-bids, job site visits, construction meetings, testing, data collection, etc.)
  • Assist in providing aid (write correspondence and notices, etc.) on projects that fall outside the original scope of work (i.e. differing site condition claims, change orders, etc.)
  • Prepare engineered project submittal packages including calculations and AutoCAD drawings with supporting documentation
  • Gather technical data on projects and prepare internal reports to summarize project details

Estimating
  • Drive the bid-spec pipeline through the various bid lead services, identifying and estimating relevant projects in the assigned territory
  • Perform plan take-offs; review and interpret project plans, requirements, and specifications to determine scope to develop detailed cost estimates following company practices and standards to ensure the estimate is well documented
  • Mentor and train all inside support staff at the branch level with quoting tools, spreadsheets, and technical writing for project-based quoting
  • Review/audit technical proposals for branch-quoted projects
  • Review contracts/sub-contracts for proper scope/language
  • Maintain proper tracking of opportunities, ensuring that all projects are quoted before the bid date
  • Maintain a database/ history of bid opportunities to improve our strike rate on bidding projects
  • Participate in project reviews, and post-mortem evaluations, providing analysis on our estimate

High-Level/Technical-Inside Sales Support
  • Point of contact for inbound customer calls in the assigned region, providing initial dialogue to gain information on the opportunity, ensuring the lead is logged and is passed on to the proper person
  • Provide technical/application support for the Global Product Lines (Pumps, Generators, Accessories)
  • Prepare quotes as needed for sales opportunities including complete pumps, pump parts, accessory sales, etc. for municipal bids and quoting through government purchasing programs
  • Maintain proper databases of references and project experience required with bid submission
  • Aid in business development by attending meetings on Branch projects and pipeline reviews
  • Lead technical presentations to Engineering Firms, and clients providing educational and product information in a formal setting
  • Attend Local and National trade shows as needed

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related field
  • 5 years experience in Inside Sales, Engineering or a related field preferred
  • Work experience in the construction, rental or pump industry preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office, Draftsight, AutoCAD, and other required PC software applications

  • Travel of 50% as needed within assigned territory
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward. Some work outside an office environment (job sites) may be required
