Highcrest Elementary School is looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with superior communication skills to fill our critical Social Worker opening.
Position: School Social Worker (1-year assignment for 2024-2025 school year)
School: Highcrest Elementary School
Reports To: Building Principal
Start Date: August 19, 2024 (start of 2024-2025 school year, including new teacher orientation)
Compensation: $54,394 - $107,777 (per collective bargaining agreement)

This is a 1-year position for the 2024-2025 school year. The chosen candidate will be hired under the teachers' collective bargaining agreement and will be entitled to all rights and benefits for the one year contract term, including healthcare benefits, paid sick leave, paid personal leave, and contribution to the CT Teachers Retirement System retirement plan. The employment contract associated with this one year position will expire on June 30, 2025.
The School Social Worker will provide comprehensive school social work services to parents, students and school staff, addressing barriers that limit a student from receiving full benefit from their educational experience. Responsibilities may include: behavioral and emotional assessments of children, facilitation of social skills groups, individual counseling related to IEP goals or 504 plans and consultation with our dynamic team regarding social, emotional, and behavioral student needs. This may also include developing individualized treatment plans for students, providing home visits and wellness checks on students, and working with families around attendance issues including but not limited to neglect, anxiety and other mental health issues, school phobia, and social issues including bullying. The School Social Worker will also focus on family education and the need to help parents support their child at home, and will connect parents to resources and conduct regular meetings with families.

- Provide direct therapeutic services such as individual, family or group therapy regarding specific issues;
- Provide case management services including, but not limited to, referrals to community resources, collaboration with other professionals;
- Provide crisis management services, including assessing for safety, and provide follow-up care for students experiencing suicidal/homicidal ideation;
- Attend and participate in Planning and Placement Team meetings;
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and functional behavioral assessments;
- Serve on student support teams and special education committees;
- Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs; refer parents and student to agencies when appropriate;
- Advocate for student services and students' best interests;
- Perform additional related work as required.
Qualifications:
- Must possess or be eligible for CT School Social Worker Certification (071);
- Master's Degree in Social Work;
- Successful prior experience working with middle/high school age students preferred;
- Must have strong collaboration and communication skills.
