ROLE OVERVIEW

As the People & Capability Superintendent you will manage and support mobilization actions for the People & Capabilities (HR) function by primarily providing services to sustain the business, but also providing advice and assistance of new approaches to work for a key operations project in Canada. This is done by supporting the delivery of project targets in a safe, efficient, cost effective and innovative manner. This role will work across all aspect of human resources both delivering hands on value and diagnosing and providing direction, advice, coaching and operational support with their team and project leadership team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage, influence and empower direct reports to execute the planned and required duties and tasks to ensure performance targets are achieved.
  • Lead, coach, mentor and develop team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, provide encouragement and recognition.

  • Manage and drive employee and industrial relation strategy and relationships to ensure all issues relating to employment conditions and employee conduct are addressed proactively and as collectively bargained.
  • Ensure that processes such as Performance[redacted] and Accountability & Performance Conduct are applied and used as intended for the best people outcomes.
  • Support and partner with other project team members; Health & Safety, Environment, Technical Services, Finance, Production, and Maintenance.
  • Ensure appropriate document management and records are maintained in accordance with company and legislative requirements.
  • Provide direction, advice, coaching and operational support in all aspects of human resources across the project, be a connector between the project and other Group Thiess resources in a regional functional model.
  • Assist the Site leadership and Americas leadership team to develop and implement appropriate strategies and actions to deliver the best outcomes for the site.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure effective and efficient recruitment of salary and hourly employees to meet local requirements.
  • Ensure the processes for on-boarding employees are effective and assist in engaging and maintaining employees to reduce turnover.
  • Partner with Training and Development to ensure all employees are appropriately trained and authorized to conduct work activities assigned.
  • Ensure all relevant employees understand and work under appropriate company policies, standards, procedures and rules.


DESIRED SKILLS
  • High level of understanding of contemporary industrial and employee relations including knowledge of the relevant legislation.
  • Display action-oriented qualities such as a focus on productivity, problem-solving, and achieving tangible outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and coach people.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and quickly set priorities and spend time on what's most important.
  • Skills in planning, analysis and problem solving.
  • Experience fostering and maintaining positive relationships with First Nations communities.
  • Having an approachable style of openness, ease of communication, and a willingness to collaborate.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft enterprise platform Office packages including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel.


EDUCATION AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • A 4-year University degree in
    • Preference to a relevant business discipline or technical study.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Human Resources (mining, manufacturing or construction industry preferred)
  • Experience in Employment and Labour Relations matters with a concentration on Union Relations.
  • Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required.

  • This role will be key in mobilizing Thiess' first operational project in Ontario, but also integral in supporting the establishment of Thiess' new Country entry and will have exposure and support from many functional subject matter experts across the Thiess Group.
