Description:

The Inpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager is a program leader dedicated to supporting medication use systems and delivering safe, effective, and optimal medication therapy. The manager ensures compliance with State & Federal laws, regulations, and standards regarding providing pharmaceutical services and Divisional Pharmacy objectives, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and oversees the pharmacy operations, direct patient care programs, and medication utilization within assigned services and care areas to ensure drug utilization activities are aligned with patient care needs, evidence-based best practices, and regulatory standards.
  • Designs and implements new pharmacy workflows, operational quality improvement changes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to advance the organization's medication use systems.
  • Provides departmental and institutional leadership for medical staff committees/meetings, hospital groups/task forces, and approved external programs/organizations.
  • Participates in the recruitment, interview, and hiring of pharmacy staff.
  • Maintains a training and competency program for all pharmacy staff that meets accreditation standards for operations.
  • Oversees staff development and participates in the educational activities of the department.
  • Evaluates performance. Provides staff accountability to practice and service standards of the department and organization.
  • Serves as the pharmacy leadership team liaison to interdisciplinary team members for areas of responsibility.
  • Mentors and develop residents and pharmacists in planning/project management. Provides facilitation or direct instruction when appropriate.
  • Reports directly to the director of pharmacy operations and performs other duties and special projects as required.

Required Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Advanced leadership degree MBA, MHA, MS (preferred)


Required Experience:

  • At least five years of work experience in a hospital setting, with at least three years of leadership experience or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of pharmacy administration and leadership residency (preferred)


Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current Texas Pharmacist licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Texas State Board of Pharmacy preceptor certification within 90 days of hire
  • Sterile compounding Certification
