MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or related field.
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering within water or wastewater utilities, or public works design or construction, including two years of supervisory responsibility.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. Select positions may require the possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment.

Part-time positions are not covered by Social Security and are not eligible for the City of Vacaville's retirement plan through CalPERS and are therefore required to make 7.5% pre-tax contributions into a qualified plan under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA). For the City of Vacaville, the plan is a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Systems, Inc.

Engineering Managers plan, organize, manage and coordinate activities within a Public Works or Utilities engineering division which includes supervising professional and technical staff to meet departmental goals and objectives for the assigned section. Some examples of job duties are as follows:
- Plan, design, assign, supervise and review complicated engineering activities of major public works and/or utilities projects
- Coordinate projects and develop and implement long-range division planning
- Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities for the assigned engineering section
- Provide direct oversight of engineering staff in assigned section

- Ability to manage complex engineering projects
- Experience managing Capital Improvement Plan budgets
