Duties
What makes this role unique?
In this role, you will lead a large team of engineers, environmental specialists, and other professionals working to protect the people and the environment from pollution from dangerous waste. Key outcomes associated with this position include: providing direction to supervisors and staff on strategic priorities; facilitating strong working relationships with local government and Tribal partners; and providing consultation to program and agency management on highly complex regulatory, policy or legal issues related to agency role in dangerous waste reduction, compliance, and clean up.

Required: A total of nine (9) years of experience which can include a combination of both experience and/or education. This position also requires three (3) years of supervisory experience which may be gained at the same time as experience above.
Experience in: Environmental, physical, or natural science, engineering, planning, business or public administration, or closely allied field.
Education: Involving major study in an environmental, physical, or natural science, engineering, planning, business or public administration, or closely allied field.

Duties

In this role, you will lead a large team of engineers, environmental specialists, and other professionals working to protect the people and the environment from pollution from dangerous waste. Key outcomes associated with this position include: providing direction to supervisors and staff on strategic priorities; facilitating strong working relationships with local government and Tribal partners; and providing consultation to program and agency management on highly complex regulatory, policy or legal issues related to agency role in dangerous waste reduction, compliance, and clean up.
What you will do:
- Directly manage supervisors who are responsible for toxics reduction, hazardous waste compliance, and corrective action.
- Oversee a team of 31 staff and support five direct reports.
- Support the development and implementation of a business plan for dangerous waste management.
- Develop and foster collaborative relationships to find creative and innovative solutions. You'll work with state and federal agencies, local and tribal governments, and the public.
- Make decisions or recommendations about penalties; corrective action permits and orders; and treatment, storage, and disposal facility permits.
