BAE Systems is seeking an Industrial Hygienist, Principal, based at the Jacksonville, Florida shipyard. In this role as a principal-level Industrial Hygienist, you will serve as BAE Systems' Ship Repair, Jacksonville, Florida, Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health subject matter expert. You will assist the Business Unit in developing, implementing, and maintaining BAE Systems' Platform and Services (P&S) sector industrial hygiene and occupational health programs. This position will provide technical expertise and guidance to all Ship Repair locations for industrial hygiene matters relating to OSHA General Industry and OSHA Maritime regulations, customer requirements (such as Naval Sea Systems Command Standard Items), consensus standards, and occupational health exposures.

Essential Functions
- The Industrial Hygienist Principal is the subject matter expert for industrial hygiene-related Ship Repair IH/OH programs and includes IH Program execution, field visits, coordination of IH sampling activities, inspections, technical oversight of IH personnel, as well as oversight for vendors (contractors) providing IH services to BAE Systems Ship Repair locations including on ship and on land IH activities.
- Supports operations by developing, approving, and administering IH program plans, monitoring and exposure reduction, and related procedures to ensure the safety of the work force and the environment.
- Provides training for applicable safety and health professionals to support IH projects and programs.
- Keeps leadership informed of activities in support of IH programs and changes in conditions which could impact established hazard controls and production in general (e.g., quality, schedule, and budget).
- Coordinates project tasks with safety and health staff and contractors, addressing proposed activities, resources, and preparation for safe operations.
- Conducts audits, briefings/meetings, as required.
- Communicates effectively with stakeholders, management, regulators, and other external or third parties.
- Serves as the technical representative of the IH program, managing activities, priorities, and risks.
- Demonstrates a high degree of leadership in IH processes and company values.
- Fosters opportunities to improve IH project performance, program execution, management and employee expectations, sample data quality, and overall value for the company and its employees.
- Provides guidance and direction to applicable safety and health staff.
- Reviews reports, testing results, and provides remedies.
- Supports travel of up to 25%.
Required Skills and Education
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Public Health with a minimum of six years of relevant IH professional experience, or the overall equivalent.
- An experienced professional in all IH areas possessing knowledge of current terminology and a broad understanding of local, State and Federal regulations.
- Proven ability to make independent as well as collaborative decisions in the scope of daily duties.
- Must possess strong initiative and be able to effectively set own schedule based on competing demands.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and customers in a fast-paced environment with a high level of detail and quality.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Specific training/knowledge/experience in chemical management, ergonomics, air and noise monitoring, hazard analysis, incident investigations and exposure controls for previously referenced hazards.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Demonstrated skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and EHS management systems platforms.
- Must be sufficiently flexible to support up to 50% travel to commence within the US. With relationships built, programs in place, a network established, etc., travel is anticipated to taper down to 25%.

Preferred Skills and Education
- Cross-qualifications in safety and occupational health and safety management systems, is a plus.
- BGC certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- BCSP certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Demonstrated experience working in the ergonomic, industrial hygiene, occupational health and/or safety fields. This experience should include a good understanding of OSHA safety & health regulations particularly Maritime, workplace ergonomic, health, and safety hazard identification and control, illness investigation, program and policy implementation, and problem resolution.
- Experience with CALOSHA a plus.
- Experience in identifying hazards, the procedures and techniques used to evaluate these hazards, identifying/developing engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment requirements to reduce or eliminate exposure.
- Experience implementing, managing IH programs in heavy manufacturing and/or ship building/repair environments.
- Experience with Root Cause and Correction Action determination.
- Experience in Continuous Improvement/Lean Principles.
