Daikin Applied is seeking a Commodities Manager II. In this role you will proactively manage assigned commodities such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, etc., on a global basis, including identifying/developing strategic supplier relationships with industry leaders. Emphasis is on procurement/logistics, cost reduction, technology advances and product development. Location: Staunton, VA - Onsite

What you will do:

  • Negotiate supply agreements and ensures supplier relations are solid
  • Counter price increase demands and prepare strategies for various commodities within NPI projects
  • Lead product development activities with key suppliers
  • Act as negotiator when supply deliveries default
  • Understand the cost structures of the Supplier base
  • Ensure the New Product Introduction (NPI) projects are fully support with Procurement roles
  • Support NPI-Engineering on prototype/sample and pre-production purchased part needs
  • Search globally for new suppliers of key components to reduce costs
  • Identify/develop strategic OEM supplier relationships
  • Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
  • Lead strategic sourcing project tasks and deliverables within each stage of NPI development
  • Confer with Suppliers to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule
  • Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items
  • Estimate values according to knowledge of market price
  • Determine method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid
  • Coordinate NPI project handoff to site Procurement team after project launch
  • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, performance, and transit
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, suppliers, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or Finance
  • Seven years of strategic sourcing, new product development or related experience
  • Experience with a wide array of commodities
  • Ability to travel up to 35%
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified International Procurement Manager (CIPM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification
  • Experience working with international suppliers
  • Experience sourcing commodities for machining and casting
