Description:

As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.

UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits and natural beauty.

The Center for Experimental Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics (CENPA) has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2.

CENPA is a fertile environment for experimental physics research, exploring fundamental symmetries, particles, and new theories beyond the Standard Model. The lab hosts a Tandem Van de Graaff (VdG) accelerator originally installed in 1965 and upgraded in the 1980s and 1990s, whose particle beam and target chambers support multiple cutting-edge experiments. These include sensitive tests of the weak interaction using He-6 and Ne-19 radioactive isotopes and new techniques in cyclotron radiation emission spectroscopy (CRES), tests of state-of-the-art silicon sensors for the PIONEER experiment, production of multiple isotopes producing gamma-ray calibration sources, and many others.

The successful candidate for the RSE2 position will bring engineering and operations skills to the Van de Graaff Accelerator Group, assisting in the team effort of operation for science runs, servicing accelerator hardware, and interacting with experimenters from He6-CRES, LEGEND, PIONEER, DAMIC, Project 8, and others.

CENPA is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you're passionate about this role but don't meet every desired qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway. Your unique skills and perspective could make you the perfect fit.
