Essential Functions

  • Manage a staff of two to four direct reports and up to four indirect reports: Direct and Indirect reports consist of AR Supervisor(s), Staff Accountant(s) and AR Specialist(s). Personnel oversight responsibilities, including: (i) Conduct semi-annual performance reviews. (ii) Conduct annual goal setting and progress monitoring. (iii) Conduct regular department meetings for consistent communication on all pertinent accounting and finance concerns. (iv) Train existing and new employees on all relevant systems and processes.
  • Hands-on preparation of month-end close activities, including but not limited to journal entries, accruals, revenue recognition, detailed transaction validation, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations and related general ledger account analysis.
  • Prepare monthly P&L schedules and present to FP&A.
  • Support FP&A in the validation of supplier contracts, rates and data.
  • Lead periodic (usually quarterly) balance sheet review meetings for Revenue Department reconciliations.
  • Periodically review supplier contracts to confirm we are in compliance with revenue recognition standards and evaluate impact on bad debt calculations for all brands.
  • Research and apply GAAP pronouncements as circumstances arise. Communicate accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain written documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Requires "hands-on" participation in account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, expense allocations, analysis, etc.
  • Serve as team lead for external auditors related to questions regarding product revenue.
  • Review and interpret accounting implications of new contracts with franchisees, vendors, and licensing partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statement footnote disclosures.
  • Work as a business partner with other departments especially supply chain, FP&A and legal on an as-needed basis to ensure management needs for financial reporting and analysis are met.
  • Various Projects:
    • Lead team in the organization and tracking of new processes to support franchisee operations
    • Provide insight into order to cash process requirements for new accounting software solution
    • Work with IT to ensure data received is complete and accurate
    • Assist in various other special projects as needed for the Revenue & Accounts Receivable Director or other members of management for both FOCUS Brands Corporate and the brands.
    • Plan projects to help automate/standardize product revenue accounting.


Job Summary

The Accounting Manager, Revenue and A/R is a dynamic role that includes a range of responsibilities across the Accounting organization's various functions (Income taxes, Corporate Accounting, Revenue/AR, and Company-Owned Stores Accounting). This role is responsible for the oversight and management of the weekly order to cash process for assigned brands, the monthly revenue entries and the calculation of bad debt for assigned brands. This role will have the opportunity to improve processes, coordinate and participate in special projects, and provide exemplary customer service to internal and external stakeholders. This is a "hands-on" role that will provide numerous opportunities to learn about various areas in the Accounting organization.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree, Accounting or Finance or other related degree, Required
  • Master's Degree, Accounting or Finance or other related degree, Preferred


Work Experience

  • 4-7 years, Progressive Accounting Experience, Preferred
  • 2-4 years, Supervisory Experience, Preferred
  • "Big 4" or second-tier national public accounting experience, Preferred
  • Foodservice, franchise operations, and/or hospitality industry experience, Preferred
  • Microsoft AX accounting software, Preferred
  • In lieu of Microsoft AX experience, intimate knowledge of the accounting modules of any other major financial system (PeopleSoft, SAP, Oracle, etc.), Required
  • Business intelligence/financial analytics and report-writing software experience (e.g, Hyperion Essbase, Cognos, TM1, Oracle OLAP, BI360, deFacto, etc.), Preferred
  • Public company accounting experience, Preferred
  • Establishing, documenting and maintaining internal controls within the context of Sarbanes-Oxley, Sec. 404


Skills & Abilities

  • Adept with MS Office. Should be very comfortable with Excel lookup and sum formulas and pivot tables
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles with special emphasis in revenue recognition (605 and 606), preferably for franchisors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to be flexible and effectively work with others as a team
  • A high degree of drive and ability to produce results/accomplish goals in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills
  • Track record for flexibility and urgency in prioritizing and organizing projects
  • Strong work ethic. Available to work extended hours as circumstances require
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Extremely organized
