What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS is seeking to hire a Design Authority Engineer and Technical support specialist with technical expertise in Shipping and Receiving and Waste Management to support the SRPPF project. The selected candidate can experience the full project life cycle from developing requirements, design/build, installation, startup/test, and maintenance. Provide design authority engineering and technical support to NNSA Capital Projects Operations and Maintenance and SRPPF Project to ensure modifications meet design requirements. Ensure safe, efficient operation of the facilities in the SRPPF campus. Ensure construction and maintenance activities are executed in a safe manner with the highest quality standards possible while monitoring cost and schedule of work activities. Interface and coordinate all aspects of facility modifications with design, procurement, security, safety, Operations, health physics, quality control, scheduling, cost, and management. Interface with design agencies providing technical input for design resolution.
Primary responsibilities include:
Provide subject matter technical expertise in the packaging and onsite and offsite transportation of hazardous materials and commodities.
Provide support to the Waste Management and Material Storage systems.
Provide input for technical reports, Shipping and Receiving throughput modeling, and operational efficiencies to support SRPPF missions and goals.
Ensure that Technical Requirements are fully incorporated in System Design Descriptions (SDDs) and that the design implements those requirements.
Interact with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firms, and other external organizations on requirements related to Shipping and Receiving.
Provide and encourage new ideas and perspectives for streamlining the process while successfully meeting project cost and schedule.
Perform walkdowns and provide Construction Support as requested to ensure that equipment and material meet requirements.
Collaborate with multiple disciplines to foster creative solutions to technical problems.
Mentor junior-level professionals to transfer technical knowledge and support their growth and success at SRPPF.
Demonstrate cost and schedule awareness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Ensure technical aspects of design and operations programs are compliant with applicable laws, standards, and DOE Orders.
Interface with various groups to resolve equipment, service, and technical related issues.
Provide cross organizational support to evaluate and analyze the need for equipment, instruments, throughput logistics, and procedures needed to support the successful development of the Shipping and Receiving system.
Support various technical functions in support of design, construction, and start-up of process and testing facilities.
Evaluate and provide engineering input for the procurement of new equipment and instruments that will support the Shipping and Receiving System.

Other Qualifications

Experience/skills must include:
Experience with electronic waste tracking systems, such as CWITS.
Knowledge of Hazardous Material Regulations (49 CFR 173), Type B Packaging regulations (10 CFR 71), and Nuclear Safety Management (10 CFR 830).
Knowledge of Packaging and Transportation Safety (DOE Order 460.lC) and Radioactive Waste Management (DOE Order 435.1).
Experience with the regulatory safety basis for radioactive material packages compliant with 49 CFR 173, Subpart I.
Hazardous Material Transportation Regulations training.
Working knowledge of waste sampling, waste analysis, process knowledge development.
Experience in packaging, shipping, and receiving commodities and various waste types (LLW, MLLW, TRU, MTRU, Hazardous, etc.).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance

Qualifications We Desire
Qualified HMTR with extensive involvement transporting hazardous materials.
HMTR, DOT qualifications preferred
Current DOE Q Clearance
Relevant experience at MOX Facility or LANL.
Experience dealing with waste related environmental compliance.
Previous SRS and/or DOE Facility experience.
