JOB TITLE: Pre School/Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
JOB SUMMARY:
Primary responsibility is to provide services to children three through five years of age who have disabilities and are eligible for special education services and their families. The Pre School Special Education Teacher provides individualized education programs to students. The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing and relating the daily activities of the students to the core curriculum; researching and implementing strategies and methodologies to enhance the development of preschool students ages three through five, and using a variety of assessment tools, developing transition plans and coordinating educational placements for students in the district special education preschool program. Through continuous collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups, including parents, district and county personnel and agencies, the teacher provides for the academic, social and emotional growth of each student by using a variety of instructional strategies, and continually assesses each student progress to maximize their fullest potential.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Credential:
- Valid California Early Childhood Special Education Credential; or be eligible for the Early Childhood Special Education Intern program;
- Valid California Specialist Learning Handicapped Credential; or
- Valid California Specialist Severely Handicapped Credential
- Bachelor Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements
- Demonstrated experience successfully teaching or student teaching special education students;
- Experience working as a teacher in early childhood special education classes
- One (1) year of successful experience in a California school district or County Schools Office
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION:
- Serves as a provider of direct services as a Pre School Special Education teacher to implement IEPs for three to five-year-old children with disabilities in a variety of settings, including the classroom, the playground, the cafeteria, and, when appropriate other settings that provide services to children, i.e. Head Start;
- Serves as a member of the District IEP team and assists with assessment, program planning/IEP development, and placement offerings for service delivery for three through five-year-old children with disabilities;
- Take a lead role in the district Child Find/Search and Serve screening activities and coordinates these efforts with the KCSOS Infant Program (0-3 years of age);
- Participates in transition meetings and activities with the KCSOS Infant Program, school sponsored programs, and community based programs to insure smooth transitions for children and their families entering and leaving early childhood services;
- Act as a team member of an interdisciplinary team when designing and delivering services to young children with disabilities;
- Promote parent involvement in the District Special Education Pre School program and services;
- Develops Individual Education Plans, implement goals/objectives for each identified child;
- Maintain accurate student reports;
- Monitors student progress;
- Develop daily instructional plans;
- Provides individualized and /or small group instruction to students;
- Interacts with parents, district and county personnel and public agencies, i.e. Kern Regional Center, Kern Mental Health;
- Assists students with age-appropriate activities and behaviors;
- Assists in the coordination of the student general education program;
- Provides adequate supervision for all children;
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the abilities of the students;
- Coordinates the assessment process for special education preschool students for the purpose of meeting state and federal requirement.
- Provides case management of assigned IEPs for the purpose of evaluating the child progress and ensuring intervention effectiveness.
- Provides research-based best practices strategies for the purpose of curricular development for preschool children with special needs;
- Organize, schedule and facilitate IEP meetings
- Experience teaching or student teaching special education students, working on student IEPs;
- Skill utilizing a variety of student assessment tools and applying a variety of teaching strategies for the preschool student, preparation and maintenance of reports and records;
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate intervention skills for preschoolers with a wide range of disabilities, federal and state requirements related to special education services;
- Ability to work independently and with others, maintain appropriate records, work and communicate effectively with students, parents and public agencies, maintain a flexible schedule, travel to various locations when necessary, i.e. home visitations, SELPA meetings;
- May assist students with toileting and personal hygiene;
- May assist students with feeding activities including preparing students and the delivery of meal trays;
- Administer routine first aid and request assistance for non-routine injury or illness
- Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements. Percent 1-100:
